Haha! That's why I haven't seen it around town then. There is an ML63 around, but I would rather avoid.

Re: the 4.7 Toyotas, they are absolute pigs on fuel. Parts are plentiful for the motor itself as it's found in the GX, LX 470, but I have to admit that I am no fan of the 2UZ at all. I have one, it's in my daily driver, but I am looking to get rid of it as soon as I possibly can and get something either capable of towing more or more efficient on fuel.
In my opinion, there are so many better choices of motor available in Cambodia than the 4.7. As for me, I've had enough of 11 mpg (4 km per liter ish) in a 2WD pickup.
Re: the Disco III, I had, have something very similar and it does well on fuel and has been reliable over the years. Our family has put 75,000 km on it without a single issue and we average about 20 mpg, so I have nothing but good things to say about the 2.7 TDV6, especially considering it's torque and horsepower ratings are nearly identical to the 4.7 Toyota motor.

Go to Landyzone.co.uk and ask about the Disco 3 and see if you still want one.

Huge fan of 70/80's era Mercedes, from the time when as a young lad, one start studying the mechanics of an engine, what goes on under the hood.

The 6.3 450SEL was very special and is appreciating in value these days as a modern classic.
For me, it has always been about the W126. I think it's Bruno Sacco styling is timeless and beautiful. Good things happen when the Germans do the engineering and the Italians do the design, as the I-tais discovered with the Lamborghini Gallardo.
Actually, im such a W126 acolyte, I had a W126 in Phnom Penh with a Nissan Diesel engine for a laugh. Wouldn't recommend it in hindsight. But if im back in the world one day, I think I will buy another off a fellow Merc nerd.

On Lucan's excellent UNTAC Blog link, this came up:
I wonder what happened to that W140? Probably under a dusty tarp in a Tuol Kork garage. My W126 was ex-Sihanouk.

Very nice.
I always loved those SECs - no B-pillar. Especially tough with the AMG body kit:

The games up, look at the Tesla guarantee. How is a $160,000 Merc only guaranteed for three years, a Kia has a better guarantee.

I agree PH, go for a twin cab. You will be able to get a 2010+ model on that budget. Go for one bought new in Cambodia with full service history.Garry Crabtree wrote:Hey PH I've got a car question for you but its not Merc related.
I'm looking to buy a car next week and I could do with some advise and recommendations from you. I need a car which can do the following:
It must have excellent off road capacities. I drive around a farm a lot and the rainy season is fast approaching.
But I also drive 4 hours on the roads to get to the farm, so it needs to be super comfortable (which unfortunately rules out a Defender)
I also drive my boss around so it needs to have some level of passenger comfort too.
I don’t want anything too wanky and nothing covered in Chrome.
I don’t really care what make it is as it will be serviced and maintained either at a dealer or at my workshop.
Price – at a push 35K but would prefer somewhere in the 25K region.
Summary – I need the best off road but super luxurious SUV.
Personally I think the rear cab is too tight in the previous generation Ranger and Nevara. The Triton and Hilux are much more comfortable in the back and have more creature comforts. Both are bosses off road. I have a Triton I bought new here and it will literally go through anything.
Second hand I would go for a 2011+ Triton, they have a longer tray than before 2011 and also have an engine that's the same capacity but puts out 35% more power. The Hilux is also great, especially the later models but I refuse to pay the Cambodia Toyota tax.
If you could up your budget a little and buy new, I think the Ranger is the pick of the bunch in the current generation.
