Interestingly the Bosch shop has many adverts inside, but they are for Pit & Go. Must be owned within the same family.

That's the word 'round the campfire according to ricecakes:

Axle wasn't what I expected to hear but I haven't a clue about fixing cars.
Sounds like you are getting fleeced by someone who probably doesn't know what "Google" is....

I know they have the Western Motor Garage close to my home (Russian Mkt area) however not sure due to some negative comments I have heard. Like this:Notorious9 wrote:Stay well clear of that theif at western motors garage!
On the car I have been hearing some knocking when turning the steering wheel and now can feel some slight "wobbly" near that same spot (Front left tire area). Control arm or something of that nature I guess, but I am no mechanic. I am an accountant for fucks sake.
1) Can anybody recommend a place to take my CRV to get checked/repaired?
2) Anything about the Western Motor Garage mechanic? What did this guy do that people are calling him a thief?
I was thinking that someone would have mentioned that there is a go-to, great BIG mechanic's garage right in Toul Tom Pong where we all live close to, GMJS. They do a GREAT job and I found them about 2 years ago when shortly after I moved over. I was actually just talking to the guys in there last week for some advice for a friend's car.....
For you GMJS, a true friend, I will help ya out. The name of the place is H &

Sounds like CV joints, probably a couple of hundred to do both. Maybe a bit more. Even a crap Khmer garage can fix suspensions.its incredibly cheap to fix cars in Cambodia except you have to fix the same thing several times and all the time they are stealing your original parts.
The Bosch seems OK, as mentioned they fixed the axle and some other small thing for $200 total.
It stopped the clanking noise however the wobbling was not fixed - went back to Bosch turns out the tire needed replacing. Bosch quoted $110 per tire so I fucked off to Bridgestone and got it for under $80 which I reckon is still a rip off.
The guys at Bosch did their best to get me not to leave by scaring the misses that the tire would blow. Not that the tire didn't need replacing but they likely knew I wouldn't come back and pay them their stupid price for tires.
I still think Bosch is a good service. I would return for more complicated services since it is worth the extra cost to have it done properly however if it is something minor (like the tire) obviously no need to pay the high prices.

Difficult for me to keep track since the misses uses it to take my son around, I use the moto mostly. I am planning a drive to Kampot soon so will see how it goes on fuel a I have been wondering also.vladimir wrote:GMJS, I've heard that CRVs are very heavy on fuel. True? How many kilometers/Lr?
I do know we use less than half a tank per week and I fill it up for $25-30 every Sunday.

"take my son" don't you mean "our". You must be a blast to live with.GMJS-440 wrote:Difficult for me to keep track since the misses uses it to take my son around, I use the moto mostly. The guy at Bosch who appears to be the owner is a real shithead. I went in to tend to a leak by the radiator and the guy apparently instructed his staff to start taking apart the dashboard to show us the dirty air filter. I told him to clean it and put it back in the car, I wont pay to replace it despite his repeat insistence he is concerned for my well being. He told my misses in Khmer I don't care about her or my sons health since I wouldn't change it, thinking that would make me cave in from the misses pressuring me. I am glad she didn't inform me right away as I was already angry telling them to put the damned dashboard back together.
These jerks have no limits to how much they would upsell you on other service, which AE86 already mentioned.

That's discouraging to hear, as the Merc's been getting uppity again as of late and I've got to take her in for a look-see. I've been getting the same vibe as well from those Bosch guys recently.
It's a shame that PH's guy is located about as far from my house as one could absolutely, physically fucking be in this city. Though that guys place gave me the impression that it was not really a full-time garage, but more like a vehicular waylay point, kinda like Sam's hot car lot.

Hmm, there are only two posters I know who have a Merc. Too obvious. I'm calling red herring. I believe the bit about where you live, though.gibbon arms wrote:That's discouraging to hear, as the Merc's been getting uppity again as of late and I've got to take her in for a look-see. I came, I argued, I'm out
I would say still use them but be ready for a bunch of upselling if the owner is around. Easy enough to tell them no just the approach they took was maddening - opening the car up where it wasn't needed and speaking trash to the misses.
