Whether you've got a Tico or a Lexus, a Dailim or a Harley, this is the forum to discuss transport in Cambodia. Where to buy it, how much to pay and what to do when the wheels fall off.

New Suzuki ViVa Axelo 125 or New Honda Dream 125 I have been looking for a moto and I must admit I was originally looking for a Honda Dream but they hold their price really well maybe too well for buying second hand. I started to look at bigger bikes not exactly real big bikes 250CC honda FTRs and NightHawks but for bikes getting on in years 10 to 20 years I think 2K-3K is just too much plus I the extra cost on maintenance.
New looking prices for Suzuki ViVa Axelo 125 (1400) or New Honda Dream 125 (1800) both without bargaining or hunting around.
Just want to get a few peoples opinions.
Also if I go new best bike lock to get around town, or anybody that's got the noisy alarms etc.

The Honda dream is the thieves number one choice-good reason not to buy one. Girls riding at night are often hi jacked.

Suzuki ViVa 125cc vs old FTR. I am still leaning towards a new or used Suzuki 125.

Re 2012 125 Axelo. Great for the open road. Did the Phnom Penh –Battambang run on a brand new one. Purrs like a stroked kitten in 90–95 kph cruising range. Got it up to 108 kph before easing off. Unlike the Dream, has spacious under seat storage, though not large enough for a helmet like 2012 Honda Click ($2000+) or 2012 Honda Wave 125i pgfi ($2000+). Has front disc brake which the Dream doesn’t have. Not as fast off the mark as the automatic Honda Click 2012, but nothing beats it in 3rd and 4th gear. 50 km per liter average mileage. Cannot attach a basket to it without modifying it, as only 2 screws up front. Resale value is not in the same league as the Honda Dreams, but, as mentioned by the previous poster, thieves don’t target it.

I purchased a new Axelo 125 in Siem Reap in April. Have only done about 200km on it but it is great. Motor still not run in but plenty of power and fuel economy is good. And it is not a black honda dream! In my opinion looks a lot better than the honda, mine is racy red. They were quoting $1900 for the dream and $1530 for the Suzuki.

I've never understoof the lack of a disk front brake on the Honda Dream range.
It's supposed the be the top line semi-auto from Honda yet the wave has a disk and all the competition have disk brakes.

dirt roads in the provinces pickup too many stones on the front disc break compared to a drum break, that's the explanation a local gave me.

It is interesting that the locals see the drum brakes as a selling point. They think they are better when they get wet, as in driving through floods as they tend to do. That is ok but once they get water in them hard to get out. The Suzuki's front discs were a plus for me, I'll put up with a few scratches on the disc. Cambodia seems to be one of the only places where honda sell bikes with drums on the front, might be a cost thing.

I hope you didn't accept it. Drum brakes are inferior, period.

No still went for a front disc brake. I prefer the stopping power.

Outside of crappy, pattern spare parts and garages ripping off genuine items, the biggest problem I've had with brakes on any vehicle I've had here is roadstone/gravel getting wedged against the disc when driving on recently surfaced or unsurfaced roads. Right Royal pain-in-the-arse.

Which is why the Honda Dream does not have disc brakes. Lucky for me the gravel put down on roads around Sihanoukville, though it is loose and can be piled up to a few inches thick theit is the size small boulders, 1" diameter and up! No chance of getting it wedged against the disc. If they actually use the correct grade of gravel then I might be in trouble. But so far even on the dirt no issues.

So bbb, did you buy the Axelo?
How is it? Saw a 2011 today in a shop for 1150 $ ('can discount').
