The Mercedes-Benz Thread
The “abandoned” cars are mostly just parked up. They can get dusty very quickly in Dubai. Plus many of those cars are not even in Dubai!
There’s even one just stuck in sand that the owner probably took.
Load of clickbait nonsense.

It’s the same m104 engine - utterly reliable - except for headgaskets above 150,000 km. I’ve had it in my c124 320ce, w202 c280 and w140 s320. The 140 and 124 were bored and stroked.YaTingPom wrote:Just curious why you only chose one engine on the C Class W202, C280?
And why the E class W210, E320 and not the W211?
The w211 was needlessly complex - it had an electronic braking system and two batteries for example. It received a major overhaul in 2006 and got more reliable after that. My coupe is a c207 coming from the w212 era which were a welcome return to form for the e class.

Ah yes that makes sense regarding the 104 (just read up). So you recommend a W202 with the 104 I6 2.8?Petrol Head wrote:It’s the same m104 engine - utterly reliable - except for headgaskets above 150,000 km. I had a 2007 W211 (E220), they called it the facelift version, and it was an amazing car. As you say they ditched most of the previous “improvements”, the only one worth having was the one in MIB!
Did near on 450k miles with nothing major going wrong. Gutted I had to trade it in for a W212 (cheaper feel, less extras - internal separate heater, twin visors etc - noisey) but it did look better.

The m104 in my c124 was from 1993 with 270,000 on the clock, without the head gasket fix, and I took it to the snow last year. Didn’t skip a beat.
No idea how many kms my 104s did over there, but they kept going. Mostly ignition coils were the only things needing replacement. They are solid engines.

Not really sure the cause - Cambodia is a nightmare on engines. Parts aren’t expensive though.YaTingPom wrote:Do the coils overheat?

So anyway. When I’m in the market I’ll be sure to contact y’all.

Dear all,
I'm looking for some help regarding....yes you've guessed it a Merc!
I have a ML 320, 1998, It suddenly died with no lights and wouldn't start. I've put power to the switch manually and it lights up. However the starter doesn't appear to be working, but then I thought it could also be the battery that's flat.
If it is the starter, any ideas where I can get another one, or can I get it reconditioned?
During my time investigating, I also found numerous wires not connected/cut or just hanging loose behind the dash.
Soooo.... Another question is, does anyone know of an auto electrician who can help identify essential wires and ones that can be taped up and forgotten?
Also help to wire the switch direct as it stopped working.
Thanks guys for any insights and genuine helpful suggestions.

Could any Merc owners please advise me if they know of any Mercedes Benz mechanics in Phnom Penh that use the Mercedes star diagnostic scanner with the Xentry software.
I currently own a Mercedes S430 W220.170 2001 (USA) model which I purchased in 2014
I just hate having to pay the unnecessarily high charges from the official Merc dealership.
Thanks

As a destitute Audi Q(rap)7 owner I can only wish the dealership serviced Audis they didn't sell new. Word to the wise, pay the dealership unless its a Toyota/Lexus, short term pain, long term gain. If the official fees are making your eyes water, suggest you flog it and change to a Toyota/Lexus for something easier on the pocket.Daydream Believer wrote: ↑Tue Apr 30, 2019 11:41 amCould any Merc owners please advise me if they know of any Mercedes Benz mechanics in Phnom Penh that use the Mercedes star diagnostic scanner with the Xentry software.

You might end up paying the same in the end.
Solution but not practical, bringing the spare part yourself from the west and just pay for the mech labor (quite cheap). Garage here are mostly marging on the spareparts.
