Blue tape under the SUV door handles?
Forgive my ignorance about cars and status symbols here.
I've never noticed this before, maybe it's been prevalent for a while but I just noticed it recently and now I keep noticing it.
I'm seeing some cars, mostly SUVs, that appear to have light blue tape under the door handles. It looks like tape, I haven't tried to peel it off an cars though, I guess it could be paint.
Anyway, do new cars in this region come with light blue tape under the door handles? I've shopped for new cars in the US, and I've never noticed this. .
When cars have the blue tape under the door handles, does that indicate that the car is brand new, or are Khmers going and getting blue tape put under the door handles of cars to make them look new?
Is it fair to say that if there is blue tape under the door handles, the driver is a douchebag?

Certainly douchebag.
Been around for a while now, a Khmer friend told me it is to protect the paint from getting scratched.

They're stickers. New cars are shipped covered in protective plastic wrappers.
A combination of:
1. Idiotic new rich mentality
and
2. Krazy Khmer Kopying
...has meant that what began with Khmer Riche bong thoms driving around in plastic wrapped Lexii, has filtered down to the middle classes who emulate the schtyle on their 2001 Camry insurance write-off . Ummm saárt.
Think of second generation Brooklyn-ites of Italian extraction who left the plastic wrap on the sofa.

Last week I saw a Rolls Royce drive by with stickers under the doorhandles. They were white though...

Rolls-Royce, Bentley and the like should blacklist Cambodia. Saw a Bentley in Temple Town covered in stickers promoting some lottery or some shit like that.Jaap N. wrote:Last week I saw a Rolls Royce drive by with stickers under the doorhandles. They were white though...

When I bought my car new a few years back, they drive it round the front of the showroom and it's still covered in protective stickers and plastic covers all over the interior. I give the girl a puzzled WTF look and tell her to get someone to take all that crap off. She gives me an even more puzzled look and tells me "but then everyone won't know it's new"?!
Anyway in hindsight I wish I did keep them on, my wife managed to scuff the front bumper with her car on the second day I had it.

That's quite an accurate and hilarious analogy...brings back memories of visiting good ol' Grandma's house.Petrol Head wrote: Think of second generation Brooklyn-ites of Italian extraction who left the plastic wrap on the sofa.
I worked for BMW once upon a time, and they'd come off the transporter wrapped in acres of plastic, inside and out, and wax to protect various parts. The glue that holds those stickers on isn't designed to be used for a long time. Doesn't age well, and is a batch to get off without scratching if you leave it too long.

My grandparents (from the rather rural father's side) did that too......gibbon arms wrote:That's quite an accurate and hilarious analogy...brings back memories of visiting good ol' Grandma's house.Petrol Head wrote: Think of second generation Brooklyn-ites of Italian extraction who left the plastic wrap on the sofa.

I worked for a VW Audi place and in the pre sale inspection/cleanup if the glue was hard to remove we'd just use a little petrol as a solvent.epidemiks wrote:I worked for BMW once upon a time, and they'd come off the transporter wrapped in acres of plastic, inside and out, and wax to protect various parts. These guys here just get the sticker shops to attach blue vinyl wrap to their vehicles to replicate the "new car" thing.
It's a bit sad.

I'm going to try wrapping my bodywork in plastic to make it always look new.

That sticker thing has been "in" for about two years. It's really pathetic and is one of those things that our western minds can't really comprehend. I think it started shortly after Range Rovers became the new car of choice for the bong thoms. It's fine to drive the car home with those hideous stickers, but beyond that... What's especially ridiculous to me is that it's a recessed area, so one of the most unlikely spots to actually get scratched up. Maybe they're also trying to imply that they have big diamond rings or something...
