The MGC allowed me to discover some listed threads that I must have missed and that are of interest to me like the valve adjustment one.

To be honest, the problem is that there are so many 250cc+ bikes and there is no consistency regarding any kind of parts, or even what market they are from.gibbon arms wrote: 'How to' convince Akira to sack-up and start repairing 250cc and up bikes. Hook a brutha up man!
I could easily do a rebuild/explanation on a 2 valve CRF230, and then along comes a 5 valve WR426 and all my info becomes irrelevant.
I do plan on picking up another FTR in the next week or so as soon as I get rid of the Zoomer X, so since there are a few floating around here maybe I can tear into that.

Great amalgamation of information. Good that it's finally stickied.
Thanks to this, and other info on this board, I was able to make an informed effort in buying a moto (Honda Wave 110) for use in Phnom Penh. Thanks all!
Do you have any info on getting used parts from Japan? I might need an ignition control unit for a bike made for the Japanese market. I'm being told that the copywrite laws are such that they can not give out or show parts catalogs. They need to be bought at a price of $370+.
Do you know about pulse generators, they give the ICM a small pulse to let them know when to fire the coil. I need to know how to test them with a multimeter instead of the special Honda peak voltage tester tool. If I turn the bike over while connecting the multimeter to the leads from the pulse generator shouldn't I get a small electrical pulse ? The manual says it should put out .7 volts I have tried ac and dc but get nothing hopefully that is the problem as its$25. and the ICM is like $700. If I can even find one.

I think I know the bike you are referring to. You can measure the resistance of the coil put your multimeter on the 2k ohms range it should measure about 500 ohms give or take 50. Other bikes can be as low as 200 ohms as long as it is not open or short circuit it will be ok.
Thanks, but it was the pulse generator i was concerned about but the baffling problem of no spark was not the electrical system. Even tho the starter turned over and sound normal the engine wasn't really turning over because the starter clutch was slipping therefore no pulse voltage as the flywheel wasn't turning.
