`Cafe racers- rap or shat?
Whilst the Cambodian teenagers in the provinces seem busy enough modding their MSXs in ridiculous ways with ridiculous results, the craze in the big smog seems to be all about these cafe racer bikes recently.
I know the UK roots of the style, but how has it come to Cambodia so quickly? I don't travel much any more, so don't know if this has been 'big' all over Asia.
And, whilst admittedly some are nice to look at, they really can't be comfortable, especially in PP, and it must be torture to ride one, with the positioning, the seat and the heat that must come straight up from the engine.
So, bikers, what's your stance on the cafe racer style and scene? Rap or shat?

It's become a global trend in the past few years.
Moto Cambodge with ,mainly, Vays shop have driven the trend here.
Get an old bike, hack subframe, change bars, pegs and exhaust. Ditch airbox and you have a half assed cafe.

Wikipedia: The term developed among British motorcycle enthusiasts of the early 1960s, specifically the Rocker or "Ton-Up Boys" subculture, where the bikes were used for short, quick rides between cafés – in other words, drinking establishmentsJaap wrote:Why are they called Cafe racers?

The bikes are rubbish and uncomfortable, we have them in Melb with the Man Bun set just loving them, that is of course until it rains and the bike gets packed away for 7 months.
I refuse to go out with nothing more than a whimper followed by a small farting sound and a shit stain on my bed sheets..
Just thought I'd share that with you.

As Hanno said above. Like all great youth creations, form followed function. Delinquents formerly used them as cheap penile extensions and a conduit to get pissed in the shortest amount of time (and terrify old people). Not because they were particularly comfortable. The mods' Lambrettas and Vespas are along the same lines.scoffer wrote:The bikes are rubbish and uncomfortable, we have them in Melb with the Man Bun set just loving them, that is of course until it rains and the bike gets packed away for 7 months.
For Melbourne youth in 2016, it is impossible to:
A) get pished in cafés thanks to the excise tax which would bankrupt said youth
B) ride with a BAC over .05 - curtailing the ability to race between cafés.
Highlights again, the idiocy of the man bunner movement.
I'm waiting until they start collecting vintage drop forged spanners as wall decorations.
[edit] and actually while others may smirk at Freshies modifying their Dreams, they are the spiritual successors to the movement as they can actually get pished and race between beer gardens. Working with what they have, form following function.

Haha - my money’s on Playboy
Some modded bikes look great, but it's really all about reducing weight to increase performance while taking on the appearance of the '60s British racers like the Norton Manx 500.
My fave would be the TT/XT Yamaha singles; loads of torque and look great with street tires and clip on bars.

PH, I love your quote.
"I'm waiting until they start collecting vintage drop forged spanners as wall decorations."
I have enough AF and WW spanners in my shed to make me the millions I need to retire in Cambodia.

And now there is a three story store on the corner of Monivong, in what used to be a Secret Recipe Cafe, near the Central Market for the Thai cafe racer brand 'Stallions' http://m.phnompenhpost.com/gallery/gran ... -stallionsJackal wrote:
