I have a 1993 Sportage, I expected buying spares would be a piece of cake, nope.
I find I can get almost nothing. Anyone any clue?
I could do with the spare wheel carrier, as it's completely missing. The car is very tidy, and my opinion quite a pretty car.
Anyone seen a breaker anywhere? Thanks.

I'm assuming you're trying to fix it yourself or want to buy parts and give to a friend/family to fix?
No. Scrap yards don't exist in Cambodia, as far as I know. Akira can clarify. Everything gets re-used with regards to cars. Trucks do have specialist shops though, axles, cabs, engines etc.
Give it to a mechanic shop. They know these cars.

Thank you, so quick response. I actually have a mechanic, and he struggles to find parts himself.
He is a really good guy, highly recommended, here is his number, 012 495 536. Speaks excellent English. Only does Asian cars though.
I knew a bit of a long shot, but you never know, I thought worth asking.

Why? It's an attractive looking car. The latest Kia Sportage is incredibly ugly, but these early ones nice. I went from Phnom Penh to Koh Kong and back last weekend, only problem a puncture, roads not so good. What more do I want?
There is almost no cars I find attractive enough to even want in the first place here. Fulfills all purposes, cheap, attractive, simple, no electronics, no supercharger. Big wheels for rough roads, still small, yet plenty big enough.
Electronics were OK at first, when just ignition and fuel injection. Now crazy, far too much, and unreliable and expensive. OK if you can buy or want to buy new. I do not want to spend that kind of money, especially here, with the gridlock PP traffic. I usually use my motorbike, and only use car if absolutely necessary, once or twice a week.

Oh yea, there is more. Diesel engine for even more simplicity and economy. Manual gearbox, I have bought autos, only when there is no other choice, I don't like them.
On my last trip I actually needed to take it off road, and it amazed me how good it was. I think the fact it has a chassis and not monocoque makes it a good off roader. So you see, for a cost of peanuts (In Khmer terms) I pretty well have everything I want, perfect.
But many people if not most will disagree, each to his own.

- Location: RESISTANCE IS NOT FUTILE. IT'S VOLTAGE DIVIDED BY CURRENT.
OP: when your regular Khmer mechanic says stuff like "Cannot" or Phnom Penh/Cambodia not hab", it just means his two suppliers don't have it in stock.
Get out into the alleyways behind and around Psar Depot - sooner or later you will find what you are looking for.
If you don't, send me a pm. I can probably help.

I wouldn't go that far. Just it's the best fit for what I want.
I went back to live in UK for 18months, after a series of modern electronic wonders which went wrong at the drop of a hat, and cost more to repair than they were worth, I bought a Fiat Scudo. Exactly the same reason as buying this Sportage, simple, no electronics, manual gearbox.
Saab 900, Mercedes E320, Audi A6. All great cars, till they went wrong, electronics.
Strange, they are super cheap and reliable till fitted to a car, then they are super expensive, and terribly unreliable, why is that then? I think a rip off.
I actually bought a Lexus when I first came here, same, electronics, what a pain, glad to get rid of the damn thing. Cost heaps of money just to keep it on the road.
No thank you, "keep it simple, stupid". I thought Japanese might be better, no, just the same.
I am talking older stuff, I can't afford to buy new or nearly new, especially here. I wouldn't want to anyway, other things more important than a car.

Thank you, been all over that Psar Depot area, not every shop, so many. I walked round with what I wanted written on a piece of cardboard, in Khmer.
Today I find Moona garage, Korean spares, worth a try.
By the way, my mechanic is brilliant, I could never hope to find better. He managed to find me rear brake shoes, but said not easy.
I keep trying, appreciate the help, thank you.
