Can I buy a motorcycle 125cc and above without Cambodia driving license?

Whether you've got a Tico or a Lexus, a Dailim or a Harley, this is the forum to discuss transport in Cambodia. Where to buy it, how much to pay and what to do when the wheels fall off.

I reckon this is a Cambodian Urban Legend - In 10+ years I've never once seen a foreigner not stop for the police when shepherded in for a chat. Not a single foreigner I know is capable of the 'freshy boy' dodge & swerve at speed - and secondly probably not dumb enough to risk life & limb in a crash to get away from a $5 fine.

Video evidence of foreigners evading police*, or I call BS. :-)

I've barely ever driven a motorbike here so wouldn't have much idea, but around 2006 I was having a couple of afternoon beers at Peace Pub with Johnny Freezone and we decided to go to George's Pizza or somewhere. I got on the back of his Dream and we pulled onto Norodom from 136, which is one-way and always had a bunch of cops waiting for such events. They shouted to stop but we just continued. So a traffic cop on an actual police bike chased us. He drove along beside us with his lights flashing and siren blaring and told us to pull over. Johnny just kept looking ahead with a fixed grin, and muttered to me "I'm not pulling over". The cop kept telling him to pull over and Johnny said (again through a clenched grin)the guy could forget it because he bought the fuckers a crate of beer recently and the guy knew it. I was in stitches laughing, the whole thing seemed ludicrous. So we just continued on, and lost him at the Wat Phnom roundabout, I think he just gave up.
We all gotta duck..............when the shit hits the fan.

* no drunks
* no "Russians" of SHV
* no debatable was he "Chinese"? or actually Khmer
* other terms & conditions apply
What a silly statement. I always evade police on the rare occasion they ask me to pull over, as do many others.

Ditto. I naively stopped once years ago, now I know better and they've never bothered chasing a car for a simple shake down.

Not necessarily of yourself - but we've got security cams of dude's bashing in ATMs, crashing cars, etc - I've just honestly never seen a foreigner avoid a policeman in Cambodia in the flesh, or even on video. It's right up there with those elusive "arb" sightings for me at the moment - they must exist, so many people can't be wrong!! :pissed:

Yeah. The members who've said they've done it (I counted 5/6) are lying.
It's not that difficult to do.

Jamie, if you check Friday 30th around 7pm and you'll see me... Notre even my turf, haha. Hadn't been to Sihanoukville in over a year and evaded three cops with the girl on the back, lol. Went to Lion roundabout from North (beach), saw cops blockade up right next to the lion so turned right towards the square. Girlfriend says looks like a policeman up ahead and sure enough a guy pulls out, ready to trap me. My brain then remembers shitty Sihanoukville cops. I pull a u-turn back the way I came (as left towards the main road had the main roadblock). Then out if nowhere another popo pulls out from where we had come (towards beach) to trap me in. Evade him as well (but slow enough for him to angrily slide his baton on my neck). Didn't hit me, just did a brisk cut throat motion on my neck as I drove by. Face it Spigzy, you're just straighter than a honeymoon dick.

Seems I tempted fate - some plonker in blue had a half-assed attempt to wave me in this morning at the Stop Bokor lights having let two Khmer dudes go right through a red beforehand. Didn't change direction, didn't change speed (slow) & he just gave up. Weird.

Might have to tighten the definition to has anyone escaped a serious attempt to stop them; I've seen police on car bonnets, kicking freshy boys bikes over/baton whacking, etc, and some other stuff that to me makes running them a pretty daft prospect if you're in the wrong. :-)
