Recommendation of which used motorcycle.

Whether you've got a Tico or a Lexus, a Dailim or a Harley, this is the forum to discuss transport in Cambodia. Where to buy it, how much to pay and what to do when the wheels fall off.

Recommendation of which used motorcycle.

Postby Benson911 » Wed Jan 24, 2018 2:05 am

I'm looking to buy a USED motorcycle. Budget $300-350. The bike will just use for normal grocery shopping or using in short distance around. Any recommendation of which kind of bike i could get regarding of that budget?

If possible, please also let me know the model's pros and cons. Thanks a lot!

At that amount you'll have to take whatever you can find. Your budget is more suited to a bicycle.

You should be able to pick up a Daelim for that much.

Pros- cheap to fix, nobody will steal it, economical, (if I'm correct) modelled on Honda Supercub.

Cons- It'll be very old and most likely used by Khmer motodops in previous lives, probably never had the oil changed in 75,000kms, it's a fucking Daelim.

Plenty of auto and semi-autos in that price range, with reg cards, available.

As mentioned, you won't find much in great working order for that amount. Your best bet is to buy from someone. Keep a look out on the Facebook buy and sell groups. Street 214 near the Olympic stadium has a lot of bikes for sale, but they'll all have the add on from a middleman.

I disagree with most of the posts above. You certainly won't be able to get anything that looks nice or goes fast, but you should be able to get something reliable to get around town. There is a shop by the traffic lights opposite the Tela gas station near City Mall which ONLY sells motos in the $350-$450 price range (at least according to the sign). They are mostly "Honda Today" and similar models.

If you can save up for something a bit nicer then I recommend doing so, but if not then check out the place i mentioned.

didn't know honda today can be categorized as reliable. There is a reason most motodops are driving daelims (cheap and easy to fix), so if you want something in that range I would look at manual or semi-automatic old hondas or alike

Then you haven't looked into it, they are extremely reliable, that's about the only thing they have going for them. The reason motodops use Dalims is that they are manual, versatile, built like lego so incredibly easy to fix, and 100cc (iirc) which is better for carrying stuff around. For the OP's stated use, I think a Today would be better, although as I said it would be better still if he could just save up for something that isn't ancient and crap. I got an Aerox 155 recently and couldn't possibly be happier with it, never going back to crap motos again.

A friend has Aerox 155 - they are nice bikes.
My favorite are still airblades (used to have a 2008). But when I was looking for a newer bike I couldn't get a legit nice airblade from 2014 or later. So had to settle for a click (i know) - but it is not a bad bike because I got it almost new I have no issues with that at all.
You probably can get 2008 decent airblades for under 600 these days could be less

I bought a few Daelims for staff at a job to use early last year nearby the roundabout at Olympic.

From memory they were $250 each, with a guarantee and a buy back deal for when we were finished with them.

They were in okay nick, with reg.

A very good, almost original condition, Daelim was around $425 from there.

I see Steps/Mio's/Viva's/Smash'/Waves/Taurus/Sirius' etc all available in reasonably decent shape for $200/450 condition dependent, also these days.

Car and bike secondhand prices have plummeted in the past three years as the market share of new bikes and cars gets bigger and bigger. It's not a bad thing.

Anyone have a spot/know a guy to get a decent dirtbike? Xr250 would be about right.

What's the deal with the Honda SLs are they actually hondas? they seem a bit cheap compared to the few XRs i see.

Wouldn't mind something a bit more durable than some chinese knockoff

Had an air blade my entire time in Cambodia. Even looked at buying in USA.

Had an annoying fuel supply issue none of the shops could diagnose until the 5th shop attempted. A friend with the same year airblade had same issue. Besides that was great for me, and that was a function of the poor quality of repair shops not the moto itself.
