Hi there,
I keep calling diverse insurance companies but none of them want to insure (third party liability, TPL) my Vietnamese registered win.
Apparently some companies at the border could give me some type of "tourist" TLP insurance, but I can not find any information about those, and find it weird that it is available only at the border but not in Phnom Penh.
Any ideas?

Foreigners cannot register secondhand motorbikes in their name (except in specific circumstances which do not apply here). You cannot get insurance on a vehicle which you don't own. Therefore, you cannot insure this bike in Cambodia. Even if some "fixer" says that you can, I guarantee that the insurance company won't honor any claim. And, you must have a valid Cambodian driver's license to get insurance.washwater wrote:Hi there,

Do this:
1. Get your Cambodian driver's license.
2. Sell the bike with the blue card to someone else who wants to ride around Cambodia and Vietnam. I've literally seen hundreds of these "Wins" advertised here and on Facebook for over a decade.
3. Buy a new bike from a dealer.
4. Make them do all the registration paperwork and order the plate. Don't pay the full amount, or take possession of the bike, until this is fully completed and you have everything. Don't trust them!
5. Get insurance.
No, things are not as easy as they used to be.
It's been awhile since I've done this, so others might have more updated info.
I am sooooo very sorry if you can't understand or appreciate my sarcastic facetiousness.
Thanks. It is actually what I was thinking to do.
So few more questions:
So few more questions:
- Want a chinese win? Good price for you!
More seriously: even if under 125cc I need a Cambodian license? For the insurance?
I am going to stay for at least 9 months in Cambodia, however I am with tourist visa. Can i get a Cambodian license with it?
Lot of blogs say that the vietnamese plate is the best for traveling between countries. But can I really not go to Vietnam with a Cambodian plate?

With a Cambodian plated bike, probably not. Never seen any in Vietnam, save for the border regions such as in Ha Tien and Moc Bai. Cars can go a bit further but are also restricted. Vietnamese bikes can unofficially travel all over Cambodia and are therefore the way to go.washwater wrote:Thanks. It is actually what I was thinking to do.
