Hi,
Repairing damage done to a Beemer by incompetent mechanics.
In need of exhaust cam sprocket. I know one guy "Ratana", who sells secondhaand parts, but he's a bit hard to deal with.
The engine is common to many models of BMW - any shop numbers or leads appreciated. Could do without another week long delay for overseas parts to arrive.
Thanks.
BMW (E46/M54) Engine spares in PP?
Dear Jackle, wtf happened? did the machanics not do the work? dont buy from Ratana secondhand parts, is it compatable? I got a 525i E34 , strangly not all parts are same. Buy from ebay quote yur chassic number(important)Jackal wrote:Hi,

Mechanical side is all in hand.
Local shop stripped out cam sprocket threads.
Need one from an old m54 engine.
Definitely available. Ideally tomorrow, or else will be a replacement from Thailand

God I love the M54 - shame about the never ending oil leaks, Vanos, PCV and water pump failures.
Haha - my money’s on Playboy

Got parts in PP, no thanks to you lot.
Funnily enough, PH, looks like a misdiagnosed cooling system issue (probable water pump) and Khmer shop went head gasket route, re-using stretch bolts, mistiming it, and stripping out the stud holes in the sprocket for exhaust cam. . .

I had the water pump done on my 325i as a preventative maintenance item. Has been very reliable otherwise.
They are magnificent little cars - I wish they still made light packages with rev happy straight 6s. Modern blown 4s are ok, but they lack reliable grunt right across the power band.

Oh yeah - and watch your driver and passenger airbags Jackal - e46s are caught up in the Takata air bag recall. They have the bad ones too - the ones that become shrapnel bombs and have caused dealths. Might be worth seeing if BMW locally will replace. The replacement has been free of charge at dealers in the West.
