Better mileage out of a sorento than a tiny car-bullshit.
My tico does at leat 55 to the gallon three up on the open road.
As for the kia serviced regulary by the emerald garage-that's the best reason Ive heard not to buy it.
And it they are reputed to have electrical problems-stay away. One thing the khmer mechanics can't fix is electrics-I know.
I have found the best mechanic in town,an australian.
You would have to have rocks in your head to go anywhere else.
Since finding this chap I have decided to import my dream car from the US,no 4WD but open air like a tuk tuk and a million times more fun.
??KIA SPORTAGE??

Koastal, why are you so gay? First you buy a Baja, then sell it because it doesn't have an electric starter and your witty bitty knee hurts, than you buy an hot pink airblade. Next you start asking around about a suzuki samurai, and now a Kia sportage.
I like you and all, but you're a fucking pussy.

Mark,
your car isn't an economy CAR but a lawnmower with a steering wheel and seats. I get better than 30mpg with a good sized 4 wheel drive suv loaded with adults and their gear. The sportage diesel I believe gets nearly the mileage you get in your car. Both these SUVS do better than a Camry. (which truly is a tiny economy car)

I beg to differ. I've driven down to Kampot in numerous cars (most of them not mine), and noted the following fuel consumption:
'89 Pajero - 18 liters without air con
LX 470 - 18 liters with air con
Tico - 14 Liters with air con
'94 318i - 23 liters with aircon
S600 AMG - 15 liters with air con
Hilux - 14 liters with air con
'96 Camry - 12 liters with air con,
(all quotes include my pros steav, starts/stop driving style)
I had differing amounts of luggage and passengers on each journey, but that gives you a good estimate. What 4x4;s exactly are you claiming are more efficient than a Camry?

Just google it. Here are the first "review pages" that come up under "mpg" for each car.Bubble T wrote:What 4x4;s exactly are you claiming are more efficient than a Camry?

Well, it' gas vs. diesel but those are the real choices that are out there. Ever wonder why they don't market diesel SUV's in the States? I have a gas(petrol) powered diesel in the States that barely does 12 miles per gallon. It gives me a headache just thinking about it. Are most SUV's in Cambodia diesel or petrol?

...and very nice it is too, but I don't see where you got your mileage figures from.Bubble T wrote:I had a cheap real 4x4 for about a year which i really enjoyed having when i was living in Kampot, but sold it (through k440)
I haven't done the PP to Kampot trip on less than 20 litres there, 25 litres back, and I drive with a feather on my right boot.
K - find a solid old Mitsubishi and stop worrying about fuel consumption, it'll still be cheaper than a taxi and less hassle than medevac.
Around $2000 buys one of these.
No worries.

Early 90's bimmer with Khmer servicing. Newish LX470, and spanking new s600 AMG.Master Donut Baker wrote:bimmer 318 consumed more gas than mb s600 and lexus lx470?
something is wrong.
Bizzar, I guess the only logical explanation is that she liked me better than she likes you.chuang2u wrote:...and very nice it is too, but I don't see where you got your mileage figures from.
Seriously though, nice to see a pic of my old baby, and glad to hear she's taking good care of you.

Yes, as I said earlier in the post, I always take tuk tuks now because I hate driving cars in start/stop mode all the time around town, and it uses at least twice as much fuel. Though to be honest, I spend more on tuk tuks than I did on fuel for the car.
I'm just gonna wait a decade or so till i can afford an Aston Martin.
