Good local PC repair
Hello, Can anyone recommend a good local computer repair shop? I need to have a hard drive cloned and some other misc. work done and the guys I used to use are no longer around.

Don't go to Pacific.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
If you want to pay $10/hr I will do it. 30 years experience fixing, building PC and networks.

Swiss Tom used to charge the same. I've not seen him around for ages though.dv8inpp wrote:If you want to pay $10/hr I will do it. 30 years experience fixing, building PC and networks.

he's good at sitting down at your computer and downloading all the free anti male-ware gear while charging top dollar at a time but!
k440, something to do when you're pissed.
When it was my full time job I charged $100/hr. But I only worked 10hours a week.keeping_it_riel wrote:Swiss Tom used to charge the same. I've not seen him around for ages though.dv8inpp wrote:If you want to pay $10/hr I will do it. 30 years experience fixing, building PC and networks.

Not to make fun of anyone's technical ineptitude but come on guys, most desktops, tower jobs are basically as easy to put together as lego blocks, theres only a certain way the stuff can get put together, even fitting memory, cpus etc onto a board is a piece of cake, these days, cloning hd's with the right tools is just a frickin joke, basically an excuse for tech guys to earn money sitting around drinking coffee.. Not knocking it, good gig if you can keep the punters rolling in, done it for a bit myself, but damn, it's a brain dead way of earning your daily loaf (in other words, you feel like you're going brain dead).
And you forgot to mention that with the Internet most problems have already been solved by someone else at sometime so it's just a matter of looking it up.
Some people pay just because they want the security of knowing, or at least thinking the person doing the work knows what they are doing.
Just a bit more stressful when you have 300 people waiting for you to get it fixed.

I bought most of my stuff there for a good price and great service!
Same here. Very happy with them, even when they messed up a warranty sticker they admitted it was their mistake.fritspaap wrote:Whats wrong with Pacific?Lucky Lucan wrote:Don't go to Pacific.

I bought a new printer there. Got it home (free delivery) and the scanner feed didn't work. Tried everything I could think of, called them and they sent some kid over. He did pretty much the same thing.dv8inpp wrote:Same here. Figured it was broken, he took it and came back with a new one about 30 minutes later. Plus James the owner speaks really good English.
I HATE PTC or as my girlfriend likes to call them PTC Sucks. I returned a video card there and they said they needed a couple days to "look" at it. I come back and they say they fix it. I said no you didn't. It over heated due to a lame designed cooling system (a small fan). So, for 2 hours they have just about everyone in the shop look at it (you know, look at all sides followed with a stupid expression) and finally they tell me they will give me half in exchange credit. I said NO, I get full price. Took 2 hours but I got my full exchange price and haven't been back since. I really hate that place with a passion.
Oh, and while there, we saw them unloading new laptops from the elevator. I am pretty sure the kid doing the unloading use to work in a rock or cement yard, because he was throwing them on the ground about 2 meters full force. Another kid would pick it up and not place it in a pile, but throw it again.

Anyone who doesn't like Capitalism is a pathetic loser. God bless the USA and no place else.
