another phone question

Postby johnny lightning » Wed Dec 06, 2017 4:02 pm

My ASUS Zenphone has an almost completely delaminated screen. It is a cheapo ($100) and that's all I need. Suggestions and options for similar? Huawei, OPPO? Any and all advice welcome. BTW currently in VN. Better deals here?

I got a Samsung S5 for $90 and upgraded it to Android 7 and am happy with it.
A bar that has fridges has warm beer. A bar with ice bins can truly server ice cold beer. Also saves on you power bill.

new screen or new lamination?

when i take my phones in to ask them for things (battery, charger, new case, new key pad) they run away in horror as though i am some evil daemon, i find it amusing to see the reactions

Are you sure it is not just the glass cover that is separating from the screen.
They are just a thin sheet of glass with double sided sticky plastic film that connects it to the screen.
New screen are very cheap less than $5. and usually pretty simple to DIY

I'd recommend going to Polaris on Monivong they have a range of decent spec chinese brands sub $100 (Oukitel, Leagoo etc) I've had one for nearly a year without issue, aside from when i smashed the screen (which broke the camera, and required new software, a whole new front face and new camera cost $30 to fix all) comes with warranty as well http://www.polariscambodia.com/

The glass has to be for your specific phone model so no shop will stock such an item so they tell you they cannot fix it.
here's an example it is for the Asus Zenphone 2 Lazer 5.5:

With the proper part you should have better luck finding someone to fix it. There are videos also showing how to replace the touch screen yourself.

As I found out yesterday when it came off completely it was not the screen coming away but the thin plastic cover. I just went into a shop 2 hours ago and got it replaced for under 3 bucks. I was well chuffed until 10 minutes ago when I saw that the new one is already coming away! I think it is because the screen is actually cracked and it is no longer possible to get the plastic 100% in contact with it. Or maybe just a shit job but I don't think so. Will check out recommendations when I get back to PP tomorrow. I didn't realize Samsung even sold phones for as little as $100. Maybe this polaris place can do it for me as well. I like the phone and it still works despite the cracks so for 30 bucks it may be a good option. Thanks for all the advice.

I seem to recall a similar thread and someone mentioned a good shop I believe was called City Electronics or some such thing, perhaps on Kampuchea Krom. Anyone remember that? He said he was well pleased with the service and it was not expensive.

Hi Johnny I believe the place is Citifone, run by a nice Khmer American it is on Kampuchea Krom near Central Market http://kh6681.yp.com.kh/

he's definitely worth a try but I have a funny feeling he deals in only Samsung and Apple repairs. Worth calling t o find out. He is indeed the best in my experience

Are you sure that's not the plastic film that is used to protect the screen protector during packaging and shipping ? It's not very sticky.
The plastic screen protectors, to keep the glass from scratches, are so flexible and sticky enough to adhere to the glass, even if it is wonky.
