So far I've hit stores on Monivong and the Krom.
Have been looking around for a new hard drive, preferably 1TB or 1.5TB (couldn't find that one). Noticed that most of them have such markings as the Pantip Plaza "DComputer" 5 year warranty stickers on them (same YinYang symbol too), however all shops here insist they only offer 1 year, in-shop only. I asked why the 5 year warranty stickers on them (i.e. 3/2016) but they wouldn't answer and got kinda sketchy. Didn't bother to tell them the sticker symbols look awfully similar to those at Pantip Plaza.
Also I noticed that there was hardly a Seagate, Western Digital, or Maxtor in sight (think I only saw one, at 120GB). All larger hard drives come only in Samsung or Hitachi brand. What's up with that? Anyone used and trusted a Samsung with your personal system data? Let's keep in mind the hard drive is the most sensitive area of a computer. Almost looks like the major Korean corporations came in and told everyone "you sell only our brands".
Any shops in Phnom Penh with good selection?

I just filled two 1TB Verbatim externals. Had them brought over from the states last month. $75 each. Seven year warranty. Nothing here comes close. Should have got more.

120 x 2 (boot), 300 x 2 (boot), 500 x 4 (storage), 750 x 8 (storage), 1000 x 2 (storage) = 10TB
About 4TB of backed up content.

They're flogging stuff from Bangkok, part the reason why all the tech here is insane prices for shit from 2 years ago. And the warranty terms are pure fucking shite.
If you get the opportunity I definitely recommend picking up either a Seagate or a WD if you're passing through Thailand - they actually make them there so the prices are pretty low. If you do go, avoid Panthip like an AIDS infected yamma ho and go to the IT mall in Fortune Town, right next to Rama IX MRT station. Unless you're looking for very high end stuff it's cheaper, a more pleasant shopping experience, easier to get to from anywhere you're likely to be staying other than Banglamphu/Khao San, and most of the shops in there are actually trading legitimately so you can get VAT refund for tourists and claw back 7% at the airport .
Obviously not worth your while going to Bangkok just for one HDD though. If you do buy one here and still can't find any Seagates, both Hitachis and Samsungs are decent - actually, as of a few weeks ago, Hitachi Global Storage is now owned by Western Digital and Samsung's storage arm is now owned by Seagate.

Complaining about the length of warranty here? No point. Do you think they'd even honor your 1 year warranty? What are you going to do, go to the police? lol. Just gotta face that cambodia is shit for tech and you got to suck it up if anything breaks.
