I'm actually hoping they trying their best to implement that censorship/regulation. Which means at least the excellencies and their underlings must get themselves educated in the subject or get educated people to do the work. Education can only mean good things.

This law sounds like if the U Tube of the General beating the shit out of some poor wanker would be considered misinformation. It is a scary step in the wrong direction.
Welcome to Cambodia Kingdom of wonder.

The Smart tarrifs posted earlier look fine but seem to be just GPRS speed, at least for mine.

well, cambodia internet is in fact alot more open than many people think. To implement a great firewall (china style) would take a great deal of policy and technical know hows. At best it will a game of cat and mouse.

Not really. When they wanted to ban KI Media, they blocked the whole of blogspot. Just take a hammer to crack a nut.
Ain't nobody got time for that!

and what stop KI media from creating clones? That's a simple workaround.

How do they plan to monitor for false information, and track down the authors I wonder? It sounds like they need a central internet clearinghouse and data center. Not that military minds have any plans to resurrect that plan from last year, in interests of national security of course. Not at all.

After suffering with QB (Quite Bad) internet for the last year I finally lost patience after two days of it not working. I rang them twice, visited them once and still no joy. After the second phone call I told them they had until 2.30pm to get it working or I would buy a competitors dongle. Their response was that I would need to go to their head office - no deal. Even when it was working it would regularly cut out, and with every heavy rainstorm it would cease to work, so I was pretty fed up with it.
After re-reading this thread I decided to give Metphone a miss and went with Smart. I tried their dongle in my laptop at the Sorya shop and it played a 5 minute Youtube vid with no pauses, so good enough for me. Thanks for the info on the thread.

Thanks for the info Nasty Canasta am considering getting a smart dongle this weekend, what sort of speeds are you getting if you test at www.speedtest.net? with your Smart Dongle.

You have to be kidding. They'll just use some ham-fisted technique and screw up what they don't understand. I got a new Metfone dongle recently after my previous one died and it's slow as fuck, look at these lame figures:

I'm no techhead, so I don't really understand what this means other than it says it is crap. I did the test 3 times, and it showed different results each time. Hope it is of some use. However, I must say that in the first few hours of operation it has cut out some 6 or more times and then was unavailable for a few minutes once. Not particularly impressive! Interested to hear how other users have fared...

Thanks, a little slow but depends if you can consistently get that speed then it would be ok, having the dropouts doesnt sound great, what location are you in.
I am currently with cellcard but costs double what Smart charge, getting a download speed of between 1.5 - 4.6 Mb/s
