best software?

Postby Niam Bai howie » Thu Aug 02, 2012 11:48 am

Im wondering about the best software for designing corporate brochures stuff like that.
What is easy to use if I want something that could be used by me (an IT idiot) or a Khmer Marketing person?

Any ideas for sources of images to use in this type of suff? Pictueres of buildings? Cool Cambodian stuff that can be used in brochures??
Appreciate any help.

or hire a professional?

what you asked was, to us, like asking your mechanic "i know nothing about engines, but what's the best wrench to use to change out a piston?"

If you don't even know what software to use, hire someone who knows what he is doing (me). Especially for a corporate brochure.

Thanks for the feedback much appreciated.

I'm actually considering getting a marketing type person for the business. I just wanted a heads up on what tools would be required for them.

I agree about using people with specialsit skill sets for specialist roles,

What would it cost to have an outsourced company provide a template for say 3 differant brochures with images etc.

The issue is it needs to comply with group branding requirments,

Generally what is the level of ability in marketing staff around town? I see quite a lot of decent advertising (and some shite) is it all expat managed? Or are locals decent at that sort of stuff?

Its all a bit like black magic to me.

Alternatively you can also outsource online. www.odesk.com -- some indians will do it for 10 bucks but dont expect 100% work well done.

generally if you have a branding kit [if you have branding requirements, you should.] you just give it to the designer... he'll follow it.

elance.com is a good place for such stuff as well.

Cheers Vlad,

Basically i want to avoid the group designer as it will carry a significant recharge for their time.

If i can find decent quality locally and get it approved by Group it makes more sense as costs will be lower, hence having a local marketing chap, or taking Vlad up on his PM reccomendation.

Just need 5 minutes now to follow this up......

Oh Vlad whilst I remember we ended up going with the ACE option for the guys who need some tweaking on the engli front.

thanks for the good advise and assistance offered back then,

NBH,

If your CI is complex, better have it done by an agency. They have trained Art Directors who know what they are doing. You'll find many kinds of agencies here, from cheap Khmer startups run by people who don't even know what a serif typeface is to world-class networks (expensive) with western staff who won Lions at Cannes.
Stay clear of Elance, I heard far too many horror stories (stolen designs, plagiarism, crappy work, etc...).

If you can't afford an agency, hire a western freelancer that you can meet in person. PM me for details.

Get your own Mac with the Pages package and download a bunch of templates at the app store. $25 for about 2000 templates with good design. It's easy to learn.
