ISPs for PP - Prices & General Info
ISPs for PP - Prices & General Info
I did run a couple of site searches and found nothing on point for PP.
Would anyone take a moment to give me the basics on providers, quality and prices?
Thank you for your time.

Ezecom: Expensive but good and reliable service with low speeds. Price range $33-$135 per month.
DigiCom: Sucks. Routinely lies to customers about reasons for problems. Routinely breaches subscription contract. Has a responsive CEO who comes to your rescue if their staff (which is probably the worst in the country) mess up too bad but you need to track him down. $12-$30 per month.
OpenNet: Varying reports about frequent cuts and bad service and lying staff. $39-249 per month.
MekongNet: OK but tailored towards corporate users. Prices not available on their website and nobody who bothers to read what they receive through their contact form.
Sinet: Expensive and requires yearly pre payments. Some guy called Jacob who promises he doesn't work for them tells everybody how much he likes it as often and in as many places as he can. $1000-1500 per year.
Smart 3G, 4G: Low speeds, dodgy connectivity and money disappears from unused SIM cards for unexplainable reasons. $1 per 1.5 GB using their Smart Xchange plan.
SingMeng: New kid on the block. Quickly became what DigiCom used to be. Doesn't haggle you to make pre payments and is happy to take your money on a monthly basis. Probably the best option right now. $12.99-$31.99 per month.
Metfone: Owned and operated by the Vietnamese military. Probably the only ISP if you're out in the bush. $30-$350 per month.
Bless

Are these fibre prices rather than ADSL? ADSL for Opennet up to $30 per month.
You really don't like Opennet do you? I've been using them for over 2 years and am very happy with price, technical service and customer service?
Have used Sinet, Digi,
Mekongnet and ezecom in the past. Much happier with Opennet.
What appears to be consistent is that most providers are inconsistent. Some people get terrible service and other folks seem to get great service for the same products.

Yes, FTTH. I don't consider ADSL to be relevant year 2016 in a country with no phone lines.
Don't like OpenNet but at least I don't hate them like I do DigiCom.

OpenNet starts at $12 a month, same as Digi (at least that's what I'm paying).
My last experience with them was just last weekend. At 4 ish on Saturday afternoon, all lights on the router started blinking. Called and convinced the tech that it wasn't a connection issue was probably buggered router and he said he'd have tech out the next day. I said thanks but as the office is open until 5pm can I bring the router over for them to check. They ok'd that so that's what I did, router worked fine, so must be some other issue. Continued with the plan of a tech coming out. He arrived 8:30am Sunday morning, we swapped in a new power supply which resolved the problem. I paid him $5 for new power supply and all done.
I always mention on these threads that your location probably plays a big role in the kind of service you receive (I'm central, near the Royal Palace). Your best bet is to check with your neighbours/local businesses to see who's happy with what they have, speeds, service etc and get what they have.

Thank you all for the feedback.
Alexandra, that was very helpful. I think you saw that I am studying online, so it's really valuable and appreciated that you took the time to help out a stranger.
1984, great advice and a reminder. My neighbor here was a former President and my comms/power do very well, lol. The idea about asking the local businesses etc., that you mentioned is very common sense and smart. No wonder it never dawned on me. Great tip and thanks a lot!
I have been overseas 16 years now, but am still getting a bit excited for this trip. I have only been to Central Asia and it's a big one off the bucket list.
Have a good day everyone.

I had Opennet connected for a year in Phnom Penh a couple years ago and my experience was good with them. Never had any issues or dropouts, speeds were great and price was also great. The only thing is they initially did not want to connect a line for me on St.21 saying it was too far, I had to pay half a year in advance to convince them.
I've used Online, Ezecom, Opennet and Dig and have been very happy with them all. As prices dropped and speeds didn't increase with the first two providers I moved on to cheaper and for my needs better services.
Now that prices are at the $17/month I'm thinking if getting a second connection, dumping PPCTV $10/month and getting SingMeng 6Mb option with TV for about $20/month.
I have a load balancing router ($74) to let me connect both ISP's to my network and reduce my chances of no network for an extra $10/month.

i'm going insane with my shit internet. routinely drops out. routinely so slow I have to refrain from screaming at the top of my lungs. It is provided by my landlady and is Digi.
I'll be moving (not only due to the internet) and want the most reliable service that doesn't result in pages not loading. It doesn't need to be super quick. It just needs to load in reasonable time and allow me to stream a movie without it constantly buffering.
I don't want to pay a fortune. Hopefully where I move will already be using a suitable ISP.
ezicom or singmeng seem to be the best according to Alexandra but I know there was another thread where people spoke positively about one provider that Alexandra didn't like for some reason... can anyone link to it?

Why is Online never mentionned in any isp thread? I suspect it must be because it belongs to a french conglomerate and the forum is prejudiced.
Been with them since around 2005 both in PP and SHV.
Prices are in line with Ezecom and after sale is usually pretty efficient too.
Connection speeds are in line with what is announced and service was always stable in the 10 years plus I was a customer.

I think Openet was the best I have tried.
Have Online now which is OK, a bit slow sometimes.
Digi was the worst, always down and never quick to fix it.

ezecom price range is wide. at what price is there reasonable service? (not necessarily going to go with ezecom but the more info. the more informed my/others' opinion)
not looking for 'cheap'. just not looking for (nor willing to pay for) expensive. mid range.ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote:If you are looking for cheap then ezecom is out

It's been many years since I used Ezecom. My contract was abruptly terminated after I threatened to throw an antenna attached to a 3 meter iron pole through their ground floor window after they had failed to take it down then refused to take it back when it was delivered. They were OK and sorted out my problems when they ocurred while I used them. That was for $120 per month, again many years ago.
violet, have you considered that maybe your landlord has multiple tenants using the same connection? DigiCum sucks, but maybe your landlord sucks, too...
Ezecum, Ezego: whatever you get, insist on monthly payments and don't hesitate to replace them when you see patterns of bullshit.
Nobody mentions CooTel or NTT either. Must be because they're chinks and japs.

Come on, they have close to zero market share beyond B2B and do not compare to the big players. If you know about them please tell us.Barang_doa_slae wrote:Why is Online never mentionned in any isp thread? I suspect it must be because it belongs to a french conglomerate and the forum is prejudiced.
