I've got no virus software (do they even make any?) and never had issues, and I go to lots of dodgy sites even ones that say "Warning. This is an attack site!" Meh. Continue."Are you sure you want to continue?" Yeah, bring it on!
People really hate Apple products and think the people who use them are stupid sheep. Apple are the cats of the computing world.
Let me explain.
Ask anyone if they like dogs and they will either say "Yes", "No", or "Not bothered". Ask them if they like cats they will either say "Yes" or "I hate fucking cats. Fucking evil animals who shit on other people's gardens. Not proper pets". Etc etc
7$0 Crapintosh "outperforms" 2016 MacBook Pro
An apt analogy.

But seriously, I have a couple of dead macs, along with a big pile of dead chargers and other replacement parts.
And a couple of Thinkpads, HPs etc, still going strong on their original inventory.
I agree macs "just work".
Until they don't.
(just after the warranty expires).

I'm a HP supporter. Have a 6 year old laptop running still, was $1,500 when I bought it so all top of line components at the time.

Wow, what are you getting so defensive about? You were pretty much the only poster who mentioned Apple and there was no bitching, it was more of a laptop Vs Desktop thing.YaTingPom wrote:
Why is it when there is a chance to talk about Apple products it turns bitchy?
Jeez. Get over it. We get it - you don't own or like Apple products. So. What.

I thought your earlier post on the topic made a lot of sense.Gin&Tonic wrote:Same. I consider all high powered laptops a waste of money regardless of brand or os
It all depends on what you are using your computer for. Most people don't need anything special unless they are into gaming or video-editing etc. Browsing and using MS Office is about as heavy as it gets for many. I know a few younger locals who have these giant Alienware laptops that cost like $3000 etc, I guess they have their uses but as you say you'd be far better off doing the same work on a performance desktop and a bigger/ dual display, surround sound system etc.I don't see the need for powerful laptops.
What I want from a laptop is long battery life. Desktops do not need that requirement, they are easily upgradable and do not suffer overheating like laptops do.
A low powered, long battery life laptop and a performance desktop combination is the way to go. If you need the extra horsepower when on the road do it remotely on the desktop.

The components of Apple Macs and Windows/Linux laptops must all be made in China anyway.

The architecture isn't all that different anymore, but as far as I know most of the more sophisticated components are actually made in South East Asia - Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Taiwan for example. Chinese factories do the assembly.YaTingPom wrote:The components of Apple Macs and Windows/Linux laptops must all be made in China anyway.
