Plus I got some other laptop drives I want to get off them and upload everything to cloud.
I am near the Olympic Stadium. Can anyone suggest a tech computer-fix shop I can get this done for the cheap?

Buy an external enclosure that will fit the drives and do it yourself.
Got any old bitcoins hanging around the drive?
They might be worth something if you sell quickly.

Exactly, I would probably go for a new drive also, and put all the data on that, they are quite cheap now.epidemiks wrote:I wouldn't trust anyone shop to do it.TRYPTYC wrote:Plus I got some other laptop drives I want to get off them and upload everything to cloud.

I have bought drives from Chantra Computer and they are pretty good, and have a good assortment of external drives starting at about $55, although I might go a bit more up market. http://chantracomputer.com/storage.html
Eg.
Western Digital 3TB $130 (WD My Book Desktop USB 3.0 External Hard Drive 3.5)
G Drive Mobile 1TB $149 (USB 3.0)
No.18Eo,St.468, Toul Tom Pong I, Chomka Mon, Phnom Penh

That looks pretty much what I want then. But that delivers to Cambodia?Beaker wrote:you will want something like this docking station

I don't have any bitcoins, after I heard about the armed-robbery they forced the guy to give him his bitcoins at gun point. So I don't have any any more, officially.BillyB wrote:Got any old bitcoins hanging around the drive?

Thanks for the tip.epidemiks wrote:I wouldn't trust anyone shop to do it.TRYPTYC wrote:Plus I got some other laptop drives I want to get off them and upload everything to cloud.

Guy suggested that docking station looks like the gig for my job. Then I can reformat them all and throw them in the bin.
The docking station is a little unusual so probably can't be found in Cambodia but a 3.5" SATA enclosure should be available in most decent sized computer shops here.
Also, as you seem to be aware of data security, choose a cloud service that encrypts the data on your comp before uploading to their servers. Apple, Microsoft and Google are all into data mining your personal info/data for delivering advertising and anything else they can make money out of.
I think he has 2 different sizes of HDs so would need 2. The docking station , I suggested, will do both sizes.1984 wrote:The docking station is a little unusual so probably can't be found in Cambodia but a 3.5" SATA enclosure should be available in most decent sized computer shops here.

I know someone who can do this for you, but it wouldn't be cheap. Maybe $50 per drive, minimum. Don't reformat the drives before you toss them. They need to be scrubbed, or physically taken apart and the platters destroyed.
I am sooooo very sorry if you can't understand or appreciate my sarcastic facetiousness.
If you do a full reformat your probably ok:
"Beginning in Windows Vista, the format process changed and a single write zero pass is applied to each standard (non-quick) format. In other words, a very basic hard drive wipe is performed during a format".
If you're more paranoid use DBAN https://dban.org/
