Hi dv8! Check this out on another note. I wish I had a unikernel function in mind for it.

Converting to Linux - Ubuntu 18.04
I do run Linux Desktops for 10+ years. Where initially there were some issues with Flash, browsers, PDF and the office formats, nowadays, zero issues.holidayinkh wrote:Still so many problems with using Linux as a desktop environment?joebren60 wrote:Can't get vpn working on my linux mint either and been trying to several years. Mouse sticking/freezing on startup is also an occasional problem and there seems to be no solution, just restart. It may take several tries. Otherwise great and very secure.dv8inpp wrote:I've been using Ubuntu 18.04 for a few weeks now and am happy with it. There is only one app that I haven't been able to get working and that is the VPN client for Fortinet. Have any of you that use linux had any luck getting a Fortinet client working?
I thought 2018 was supposed to be the Year of the Linux Desktop? Or wait... wasn't that 1998?
Is there even a decent terminal comparable to iTerm2 available for Linux GUI environments yet?
Ubuntu as a Desktop is to much flashy and immature, including the (reverted to original Gnome Desktop 18.04 and 18.10 version). Better use LinuxMint 18.3.
After initially struggling with OpenVPN, once I gained the knowledge about "how to", it works perfectly. It even works better then a port-forwarding through ssh. I do connect to my own (FreeBSD) VPN server, so I do have "control" on both ends of the connection, though the server side is just plain "stock". Though it gives me insight in the parameters at the server side.
The same applies for all public VPN's I connected before setting up my own VPN server.
VPN's do need a lot of parameters and these all need to be exactly right, otherwise it won't work.
For Gaming, the Steam on Linux does seem to make a lot of people happy. Not me, I am to busy to do gaming, so can't give inside information about this.
Also have setup openvpn and pdfsense, not to hard but connecting to the Fortinet appliance seems more difficult, Fortinet don't even provide a linux client but they do a mac client so it should be easy enough for them to write something.

I was just making a joke about the eternal "year of the linux desktop" . I'm definitely a fan of Linux and have been using it since Slackware 2.2.
As a desktop it's too much of a pain in the ass for me customize as I want these days, and lacks software that is too important to me. Just counting my iterm2 profiles though I currently have about 40 machines or VM's all running Linux except a few still running FreeBSD. They are all headless servers only.
I am definitely also a fan of OpenVPN, though I haven't setup anything other than OpenVPN AS in quite awhile. It's pretty damn convenient and the support is great.v12 wrote:After initially struggling with OpenVPN
Finally solved the VPN connection to a Fortigate server. Just need to use Shrew Soft VPN and this guide https://kb.fortinet.com/kb/documentLink ... ID=FD37618 works well.
StrongSwan enforces strong PSK so you'll need a 20 character PSK
