My new phone is a Samsung Galaxy s24.
It's the Australian release with preloaded links to Australian sites such as Telstra and multiple gaming sites.
How do I remove these preloaded sites as they are of no interest to me and they keep sending me updates which shut the phone down till the update completes itself.
Thanks for your replies and remember to dumb it down a bit as I'm not all that sharp when it comes to this sort of technology.
Thanks
Kev

I refuse to go out with nothing more than a whimper followed by a small farting sound and a shit stain on my bed sheets..
Just thought I'd share that with you.

Don’t bother. You are not going to root your phone and install a version of Android without the built in crap.
You will mess it up and end up with a voided warranty and an unusable brick.
In theory, this is an easy reply.
Just press and hold the offending Application and the equipment should offer to un-install it.
On some phones the press and hold will result in a dustbin icon appearing at the top of the screen. If it does then just slide the offending icon up into the bin.
In practice it can be impossible though.
Samsung absolutely add Applications as part of their 'front end' to Android. These are as good as impossible to remove.
The service providers are also adept at adding un-removable Applications as well.
So, the short answer is that if pressing, holding & clicking doesn't work then you are stuck with the Applications - without a great deal of effort that would almost certainly void any warrantee you have on the device.

You can turn off automatic updates. Then periodically select apps you use for update. Don’t bother updating the others.
You can bung all apps you have no interest in into a folder so they don’t take up real estate on your screen. Do this by pressing and holding one app and dragging it on top of another app you won’t be using. Let go. It creates a folder with two apps in. Name the folder. Go to the next app and press, hold and drag to the folder. Release to add to the folder. Repeat.

PS if the Telstra app is preloaded it sounds like you bought a phone locked to Telstra (probably on a plan). You really wouldn’t want to be trying to remove that app.
Make updates non automatic and regularly update at a time that suits you (ie when you aren’t going to be on a call with friends and family)

I Had not considered this possibility,
I purchased the phone at a very large discount through my employer's business a/c with Telstra.
I think I need to investigate this further as I have not used a sim card from another service provider as yet.

If purchased outright it may not be locked to Telstra. You can get it unlocked if it’s not on a plan.scoffer wrote: ↑Sun Mar 10, 2024 6:06 amViolet, violet wrote: ↑Sun Mar 10, 2024 3:45 amPS if the Telstra app is preloaded it sounds like you bought a phone locked to Telstra (probably on a plan).
