Burk Lucius Daniel, 33 years old.
I translate the name of the guesthouse as Luxury Boutique (លុច្សសារីបូទិច) on Preah Sisowath Bld.
The article mentions a drug overdose followed by a heart attack. (រើប្រាស់គ្រឿងញៀនហួសកម្រិតបណ្តាលឲ្យគាំងបេះដូងស្លាប់ដូច្នេះ)
RIP, way too young.

RIP
Am I being paranoid/a conspiracy theorist, or does the tea fee for guesthouse owners (approx $1000/death) not encourage police to make sure dirty drugs stay in circulation?

If the police wanted more barangs to die of heart attacks in guest house rooms, they'd plant more treees around riverside.vladimir wrote:RIP

Dear Elekid,
I'm the mom of Lucius (Luke) Burk. Luke's 10 yr old brother, Noah, found this post about Luke today. Myself and four other family members came to Cambodia the day after Luke died to bring him home. He was loved very much.q
Would it be possible for you to translate the news article for me? I would be so appreciative if you did. We went to the guesthouse to talk to the owners with a translator but it was still hard to understand what they were saying to us.
Luke and his girlfriend, Sara, had just spent a year working in Australia. When they were in Sydney, Luke was diagnosed with having a faulty heart valve but didn't do anything about it. I guess being 32 and in great shape he thought he could wait until June when he returned to the US. He died of cardiac arrest; there were no drugs or alcohol found in or on him.
He was in Bali staying with my sister who lives there and had traveled to Cambodia to see the temples in Angkor Wat; he had a flight back to Bali the morning he died.
Thank you for posting the article on your forum and to the people who wrote that he rest in peace.
Kind regards,
Cindy

Very sorry for your loss, Cindy.
Hope you are finding comfort and answers to bring you peace as well.
Here's a rough translation of the linked article.
Headline: An American national lied dead in his room at the Luxury Boutique, hotel owner seemingly hiding information.
Phnom Penh - A male American national was found dead, lying on his stomach, in his room at the Luxury Boutique Hotel, on suspicion of a drug overdose leading to a cardiac arrest. As for the hotel owner, it seems that he tried to hide information, by moving the victim's body through the hotel's back door.
This event happened after the man was found dead in his hotel room, located 337, Sisowath Quay, Chey Chumneas commune, Daun Penh District, Phnom Penh, at 12.20pm on May 2nd 2014.
Authorities identified the victim as Burk Lucius Daniel, 33 year old, on a tourist visit in Cambodia.
A source at the hotel said that the victim came to rest at the hotel on April 30, 2014 in room 609 at a US$20 daily rate.
The same source added that on May 1st 2014, when a hotel staff went to make up the room, he/she saw the victim watching TV and he stayed in the room the whole day. On May 2nd 2014, at 12pm, a female hotel staff went to make up the room, which was locked from the inside. As she knocked on the door without receiving any response, she went back downstairs to inform the owner and other staff. The owner and hotel staff used a knife to unlock the room's window (Translation note: inside window?), through which they found the victim who was already dead. At this point, the owner reported to the police.
The police and other witnesses suspect a drug overdose that led to a cardiac arrest.
Sources said that after the information of the death of an American national spread, several journalists went to report but the hotel owner hindered journalists' investigation by transporting the body of the victim through the back door.
Authorities said that the overdose conclusion is only a preliminary conclusion and that the technical team has decided to (will?) draw blood for drug testing.
Hope you are finding comfort and answers to bring you peace as well.

Cindy's story highlights why posters should be a bit more respectful in these cases.

Dear Joon and all,
Thank you for translating the article for me.
I don't understand the part about the hotel owners moving Luke out the back door but does explain why they acted the way they did when the US Embassy personnel took us to the hotel to speak with them.
They didn't mention moving Luke but told the translator a number of times they knew it was an overdose.
To all on this thread, I wish each of you good health, to stay safe, and to call your loved ones so they can hear your voice.
My best to all,
Cindy

You are welcome, Cindy.
I think the hotel owner didn't want to attract attention, which could affect the reputation of his establishment. Journalists had come to the hotel to cover the story and they may have wanted to ask questions or take pictures. So they moved your son's body through the back door of the hotel instead of the front.
I hope you will have more answers soon and thank you for your wishes.

Very poignant words, Cindy, especially in the midst of your pain. I will be calling home today.Chockett wrote: To all on this thread, I wish each of you good health, to stay safe, and to call your loved ones so they can hear your voice.
