there are only a limited number of things that can take healthy girls down this fast.

a couple of sea foods, an insect or two and hydrogen sulphide.

die in their sleep would either point to heroin or hydrogen sulphide or possibly an insect via food. and this is the time of year that that particular insect is about. october november
perhaps some mushroom too but i dont know the symptoms or lead up.
dont know enough about available medicines to comment there.

What type of Cambodian insect are you referring too that can kill in such a very short time?
Serious stinging question.
Never mind.

From the Sun, this is what the owner had to say:

”They decided to sleep it off but never woke up again...

"At the minute, bodies are in the morgue and they’ll be sent over but it could take up to three days.

"I don’t know if they’ll want an autopsy to determine cause of death, because nobody knows."

They certainly didn’t look in a position of “sleeping it off,” and I’m going to go out on a limb and say that they will 100% want an autopsy.

Who will 100% want an autopsy? A lot of families don't want to cut up the bodies of deceased loved ones to search for possible evidence of illicit drug use.

It is almost impossible to overdose on valium unless mixed with alcohol and/or other drugs. In fact, with only valium, it would take around 1,000 times the normal prescribed dosage. The danger with snorting heroin is that the effects are slower, so a naive user might double dose if no initial rush

Modern Benzos like XANAX where found in the dead bodies of: Michael Jackson, Amy Winehouse, Whitney Houston, Andy Irons + + + + + + + + + + +
In a deadly cocktail of course ... and always with alcohol.

I don't think those are fair comparisons.

- Winehouse's blood alcohol content was 416 mg per 100 ml (0.416%) at the time of her death, and she suffered from bulimia which probably didn't help.
- The cause of Houston's death was drowning and the "effects of atherosclerotic heart disease and cocaine use". Toxicology results revealed additional drugs in her system: diphenhydramine, alprazolam, cannabis and cyclobenzaprine.
- Michael Jackson had too many drugs in his system to mention, but the most significant drug being the anesthetic propofol ("milk of amnesia")

There is never "fair comparisons" ... just saying ... but these 2 girls look like pretty decent girls and Heroin consumption in a Dorm ... pretty unusual I would guess.

No idea if it actually reflects any information re the medications taken, but the Khmer Times story shows a picture of tramadol tablets. A senior police officer is quoted as saying “We found pills for headaches and dizziness at the scene,”

Even so, it would take a combination with something else (such as SSRIs) to normally lead to a fatal od unless they took a fairly large dose. If, to try and get a quicker effect, they had chewed, crushed, or snored tramadol, that could also offer an explanation. Tramadol OD can cause breathing issues, to the point that it can stop altogether.

They don't look like they're going to be using heroin, or going out and taking fake cocaine. They look like they were ready for bed, which makes me think sleeping pills of some sort, perhaps a strong pain reliever?

Anyway, bloods will have to be taken ASAP if not already to do a tox screen, before the bodies are repatriated.

Whatever happened, it's a damn shame. RIP.

Benzos are often found in drug related deaths, but usually as a secondary or tertiary factor. As with diazepam, it takes a ludicrous amount of Alprazolam on its own to overdose.

From the article:

A senior local police officer who declined to be named said the pair may have been suffering from food poisoning before taking the medicine.

“We found pills for headaches and dizziness at the scene,” he said. “A few of their friends came and told us the girls had eaten something bad and had diarrhoea and headaches, so we think they took too much medicine.”

The officer ruled out any suggestion they may have committed suicide together.

“We cannot say it was a suicide because they called for help from guesthouse staff at around 3am,” he said. “They were sent to the provincial hospital where they were pronounced dead.

“It was definitely not murder because we did not find any marks or bruises on their bodies.”

The officer said food poisoning leading to an overdose was the most likely cause of death, but no tests had been carried out on the food in the girls’ stomachs.

I still don't know how pills for headaches and dizziness could cause you to OD unless they were some serious painkillers. Two people, same food poison, same OD? If they don't test the girls I hope they at least test the pills in the room.

Any pharmacies in Kampot that suddenly closed their doors today?
