PHNOM PENH - Cambodia will send 184 blue helmet military personnel to join UN forces in Lebanon in mid-January 2018 f to replace the current deployment.

Gen Sam Sovanny, Second Vice President of the Cambodian Mine Action Center and Director-General of the National Center for Peacekeeping, said this is the eighth time that Cambodia will send its forces to the country to aid the peacekeeping mission. The Cambodian Blue helmets are being sent to replace the old force, which will have completed a one-year mission in January.

He goes on to say that the engineering blue helmet force numbers of 184 solfdiers will be accompanied by a demining force, which has received specialist training to appropriate standards of the United Nations forces, from institutions under the defense ministry directly under the National Command Headquarters, Command Naval Force Command, Anti-terrorism and other military institutions.

Alexantre Huynh Representative, UN Resident Coordinator in Cambodia, said Cambodia, by sending these soldiers to Lebanon is demonstrating a strong commitment to its support for United Nations peacekeeping operations, to address complex conflicts and protect civilians.

He added that some 23 years ago, UN peacekeepers had sent to Cambodia, but now Cambodia has transformed into a country that sends forces and teams to participate in a humanitarian peacekeeping operation in eight countries.

Colonel Leng Vanna, Commander of the Task Force 369, is completing the UN mission in Lebanon, said the forces being deployed are both engineering and demining experts. He added that for daily operations, demining was a priority between the border of Israel and Lebanon.

Since 2006, Cambodia has sent nearly 5,000 troops, including more than 200 women, to the UN mission.

Currently, Cambodia has nearly 1,000 active personnel in five countries, including Sudan, South Sudan, Africa, Central Lebanon and Mali. According to a report by the Cambodia News Agency (AKP).

Old news, renewed mission.

Mines, IEDs, right? That's their expertise?

Neutral histories, but both were under France in colonial times?

Yawn ...
Mongol General: What is best in life?
Conan: To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women.
Mongol General: That is good!
