When I flew to KL last week there were 3 Cambodian women going there to work. On my way back yesterday half the plane was full of them. All happy to be going home after 2 years but sad they couldn't go back.
Perhaps the maids on your return flight were (formerly) employed by scrupulous recruitment agencies?
The topic or post you are looking for does not exist.
Of course it was ignored. Either the Post or the Daily published a story on the law, then a story a few days later that the Minister of labor was going to let 3000 more women go to Malaysia due to contracts already signed. I am pretty sure that means his friends wanted their cut or he did and they didn't give a rats ass about the women.
So, the government has basically said we don't care about our poor Khmer with all the land grabs, the poorer Khmer women being shipped out of country and recently they have said that their under aged children are up for grabs as well, with the recent release of Alexander Trofimov, convicted pedophile.
WOW, looks like none of the Cambodian elite will be wining the Nobel Peace prize this year. That's okay, their pockets and mattresses are full of $$$,$$$,$$$
Wait, they still might have a chance.
Maybe they can get the ACU nominated!
Okay, sarcasm off.
I filled in the arrivals/ departure cards for those sitting around me. They were spending the first night in their 'training centers', then they were going to be taken home by minivan the next day. I was surprised they were being treated that way.
The vast majority of recruitment agencies are legit and treat their employees well.
Same goes for the direct employers in Malaysia.
No it wasn't.
I've flown to KL 3 times since the ban came into effect, flown on Malaysian Airlines and Air Asia. Hardly any maids or factory workers going. The planes coming back are full of women who've finished their contracts.
They worry where they're going to find their next salaries.
Very shortsighted of the government to ban outright the export of labour to Malaysia instead of improving controls, mainly on the Cambo side.
I agree, but "controls" here just mean more bribes to the right or in this case the wrong people and the controls are gone.
No, controls mean controls, not bribes.
Are you one of those jaded expats that think Cambodia should have stayed it the shit hole it was in before Lon Nol? Or that Lexus cost a fortune and every one was stolen? In fact that every Cambodian is a thif, rapist or cop murderer?
Get out of your little world and see what it's really like.
The Cambodia Government seems to be following the western model, some bad press about a few douche bags doing nasty stuff, so a complete ban on everyone doing something that was a real boon for most, easier to "ban" rather than investing the effort required to mange properly.
Same with the paedo thing, a few white skin ass wipes !!!oh no!!! Never mind the who in hell knows how many locals or others of Asian ethnicity up to the same thing or if the stats are similar to Aus. 80% of the child abuse occurs at home. Some twat fiddles a kid, so single males can't sit beside a kid on a 'plane anymore, well fcuk you very much for the assumption of guilt but I digress Same drivel over here, victory, not solutions is the motto
At least you don't have to have the local Scout troop do risk assessments on kids playtime
One day they to can go from the economic baskets-case they are now, to the economic basket-case the developed World is becoming.
?? i thought it was the "pearl of SEA"...
otherwise agree it would be preferable if the whole process was managed better...but then if it was you wouldn't get this shit happening...as with many industries that are not regulated much of what transpires is pot luck...
He's been in his room 35 years...time to let him out!
