Phnom Penh – Police in the capital will be deployed to guest houses and hotels on Valentine’s Day in an effort to curb under age sex.
According to the Phnom Penh Post, “the Phnom Penh municipal authority announced yesterday it would order “all guesthouses and hotels in Phnom Penh” to strengthen security to avoid “anarchy” on a day that is increasingly popular across Cambodia.”
Phnom Penh municipal police chief, Touch Naruth told the Post, “We just want to prevent anarchy.”
The Post’s article went on to say that officials would send officers to guesthouses and that the chief of police of has ordered owners to check the age of their guests.
The Army’s police unit has declined to get involved with the Valentine’s Day shakedown. Kheng Tito, a spokesman for the military police was quoted by the Post as saying, “If we do this, maybe we are impinging on people’s rights. If they want to act immorally, they can do that anywhere.”
