Land Grabbing in focus...
Taking someones land is not a new issue in this world, it's been going on ever since man was created by GOD. In fact it was GOD that stole the land off the Palistinians and gave it to the jews.
I am just a nobody
But one day I will be a somebody really important
And you all will be wanting to shake my hand
and say
Hey you, you are my friend.

Interesting article in yesterday's PPP. More than 1000 hectares of community forest in Oddar Meanchey, designated for a carbon credit project, have been illegally seized and cleared-by villagers.
Fits in with what I have observed up there. The only illegal logging of native forest I have seen in Oddar Meanchey has come from local villagers, not land grabbing okhnas.
Waiting to see the reaction from the NGOs if authorities try to remove them from the land they have illegally seized.

There are very few mixed Thais here. There are some mixed Vietnamese - but there are far fewer Vietnamese here than the opposition/KR would like you to think. In general Khmers and Vietnamese don't intermarry anyway. There are quite a lot of Sino-Khmers, but then the Chinese have been settling here for almost a millennium.OrangeDragon wrote:
Once killing off a people fails, frequently the second approach is to breed them out of existence. Attack their bloodlines and their culture instead of their bodies. It's much less obvious at first. People give SR shit for his nationalism, but eventually when every khmer is really just a 75%+ vietnamese/thai who lives here... what's a khmer? it's already heavily the case here, with so many mixed... i can't really hate someone for trying to prevent a genocide of their people.
There have been Malays, Javanese, Chinese, Chams, Filipinos, Hilltribes and various other groups mixing with Khmers since the year dot, and there have been influxes of Portuguese, Spanish, English and French over the last 500 years. To speak of a "pure" Khmer race is just ridiculous, and I'm not sure where you're going with this ignorant nationalism.

personally i think this approach to it is ignorant... however i didn't present any nationalism... at best it could be called racism, though in reality it was expressing an understanding of an attempt at cultural preservation.Lucky Lucan wrote:ignorant nationalism.
i know there's a lot of mixing (though i didn't know the exact breakdowns), even my wife looks a fair smidge more chinese than khmer (25% C / 75% K)... i simply see it as a culture wanting to prevent themselves from being bread into complete non existence. as mentioned, it's the tactic used against the native Americans to near success, and now THEY are in a panic because of it. hell it was the premise for that scottish william wallice movie...
it's no secret that it happens, nor is it a new concept. it's just a shame a culture wanting to prevent it is seen in such a negative light for doing so.
Those who begin coercive elimination of dissent soon find themselves exterminating dissenters. Compulsory unification of opinion achieves only the unanimity of the graveyard.

Yes, that might be a better term for it. You really need to stop believing that trash posted on sites like KI media. You're just presenting the same xenophobic crap that Pol Pot/Sam Rainsy have been spouting for decades. Sam Rainsy is half Vietnamese himself and Pol Pot was Sino-Khmer. I hope you realize that most of that content comes from completely out-of-touch overseas Cambodians who haven't been here in a long time and still think this country is a puppet-state of Vietnam.OrangeDragon wrote:personally i think this approach to it is ignorant... however i didn't present any nationalism... at best it could be called racism.Lucky Lucan wrote:ignorant nationalism.
