Those who begin coercive elimination of dissent soon find themselves exterminating dissenters. Compulsory unification of opinion achieves only the unanimity of the graveyard.

Honestly, what is this country coming to when meth dealers can't hang out here, avoiding US court hearings? Bill Corr can still get teaching gigs with kids, but this guy gets picked up within a few months of arriving?
End of the world for sure.

Based on the laws here in California, 4 ounces or more (without doc recs as per CA props SB215 and SB420) would almost certainly include the addidtional charge of Possession with Intent to Sell. From the description of "Not small amount" we know that he had in his possession, at least 1.5 ounces, but from the absence of an Intent to Sell charge, I have to assume that he didn't have a whole lot more than 42 grams and certainly less than 4 ounces. Intent to sell usually involves the presence of scales, cash, baggies and other dealer paraphernalia, but even in states with more progressive marijuana laws, possessing more than 4 ounces can, and usually does, trigger intent to distribute charges, since that amount exceeds that which can be construed as a typical user's personal stash of the icky sticky goodness.OrangeDragon wrote:nothing indicates the volume or the drug... only that it's NOT a "small amount of marijuana" because a "small amount of marijuana" is the exception from that law. We only know that it was some unknown quantity of some single or mixture of Schedule I, II, III, or IV drug(s), and that if it WAS marijuana it was more than the 42 grams limit they define as "small amount".teamone wrote:Extradited for possession of a few ounces of pot? I am sure much harder criminals are to be found hiding out around here than just another Minnesotan pot head.
LEA rarely miss out on trumping up possession charges when the opportunity presents itself, is all I'm sayin. That said, his offence could range anywhere from 5 kilograms down to 42 grams, so even at 1.5 ounces, he's fucked for 5 years and $10,000, which could explain the lack of intent to distribute charges.
Either way, the mind boggles to think of all of the hard-core criminals with US passports roaming the planet, and US LEA deciding to make this guy a priority. An example would be more like it. Lots of people are talking about fleeing the US these days. Perhaps they want to teach the plebeian classes that "You can run, but you can't hide" from debts, taxes, or criminal charges, no matter how trivial. Submission is the new normal.
That's like, your opinion, man.

If you read this link you would see that he's wanted in connection for meth distribution, not marijuana.saulkc wrote:This article says he was wanted for trafficking meth in Fargo.

again... nothing indicates that this is marijuana... in fact things seem to indicate from newer information that it's crystal meth. meaning ANY amount. likely also is that they didn't make him any kind of priority, but that he skipped a court date and either they looked up if he'd left the country, or someone (like the person who had assured his bond) filled them in and pointed them here.
i imagine the later case to be more likely as that charge would carry around a $10,000-20,000 bond which he would have assured with either someone's property or a bondsman... both of which want him back to stand for court so they're not out the money.

Crystal meth? So it's not the evil government and the corporations being all corporaty and stuff?
Fuck him. Get a rope, I'll help.

Nope, most likely just some bail bondsman who wants his cash back.Walter White wrote:OrangeDragon wrote:again... nothing indicates that this is marijuana... in fact things seem to indicate from newer information that it's crystal meth. meaning ANY amount. likely also is that they didn't make him any kind of priority, but that he skipped a court date and either they looked up if he'd left the country, or someone (like the person who had assured his bond) filled them in and pointed them here.

The Minnesota press has picked up the story also. It appears Petersen had drugs and weapons convictions in Minnesota.
