- A Japanese woman is recovering after being shot in a purse snatching that occurred south of Psar Chas Market.
- It may be recalled that at 8:00 pm, 28th September, 2013, at the intersection of Street 13 and Street 110, Wat Phnom Commune, Daun Penh District, a Japanese woman was shot in the thigh by armed robbers on a moto in a purse snatching.
-The victim has been identified as ‘SAKIKOTAKAYANACI,’ a 33 year old Japanese woman, holding passport TK 9728876, who entered Cambodia on a tourist visa, and who had been staying at the Pacific Hotel, in Psar Tmey 2 Commune, Daun Penh District.
-The victim informed police that she and her younger sister had just exited from the Night Market when 2 men on a black Honda 125 cc moto grabbed her purse and fired a shot that pierced her left thigh. A witness told police that when the suspects grabbed the victim’s purse, the victim tried to wrench it back, and a struggle ensued before 1 of the suspect pulled out a handgun and fired a shot that hit the victim in the left thigh. The victim crumpled to the sidewalk and the robbers fled on their moto along Street 110, heading westward.
- Police stated that a ‘54’ bullet shell was found at the scene, that the victim had been shot in the left thigh, that the bullet had buried itself, but that doctors were successfully able to remove it, and that the bone had not been damaged.

.54 cal?--On a tiny young Japanese girl? Photos don't look too bad. She's either really, really lucky or someone got the numbers wrong.
edit: Just looked it up. Chinese Type 54 pistol ---- 7.62 x 25 mm.

Wishful thinking about size is deeply ingrained...

Jeez, don't tell me you've never heard of a K-54 or K-59 pistol. They're the most common guns here and the number comes from the year, not the caliber.

'Type 54 was first adopted in 1951 and produced in Shenyang's Factory 66 as the improved version of the Type 51 (Chinese copy of the TT-33) using both Russian and Chinese-made parts after the Korean War.'

You forgot to quote the next part
In 1954, after approximately 250,000 pistols were manufactured, the designation was changed to Type 54 and the pistol used exclusively indigenous components. In 1954, after approximately 250,000 pistols were manufactured, the designation was changed to Type 54 and the pistol used exclusively indigenous components. This type of pistol is commonly available in 7.62x25mm caliber, although some variants have been made in 9x19mm Parabellum.

Such a pity there wasn't a good guy with a gun patrolling the area, this could have been averted. Hope she gets well soon.

Even the thieves are more empowered of course, maybe Hun sen could persuade police to work at night outside of election times. The other Sunday night they were shooting the public on the monivong bridge. This morning I saw six bodyguard unit members drinking coffee on 118 when they could have been working. I assume everyone has seen the two highly insulting YouTube flicks re the boss and his wife about money and the death of the young singer. Hundreds of thousands of hits and can only come from Khmers.
