Koh Santepheap report with the headline 'Foreigner found dead in strange state of affairs'
Skim reading it, it reads as if an ambulance was seen bringing the Canadian (not French, and his name is given in this) earlier on in the day and depositing the body and then driving away. Later in the afternoon he was seen sitting dead in his wheelchair.

Rereading more carefully the article I have to correct myself. The ambulance 'delivered him' and did not 'deposit his body' earlier in the day. The use of the word ដាក់ which is a verb that means '1 to put, place; to deposit' (and which my wife always seems to use rather curtly most days) threw me off.
It was also a Sonja Kill hospital ambulance that brought him. They are a respected and professional hospital I believe.
So I presume he was brought back from hospital in an unwell but stable-ish state that was perhaps more serious than doctors thought and he later died in his wheelchair.
The article title with the extra info about the ambulance intrigued me, but now I think it's just referring to his position when discovered.
RIP.

They may be well respected but that's a rather unfortunate choice of name for a medical facility.Rama wrote:Sonja Kill Hospital

TOF reports him as being Canadian, which would make sense as Bruce Donaldson doesn't sound very French...
Edit: I've seen it now, the thread title needs to get updated...

Shame. RIP Bruce. Good man.
Bruce grew up in British Columbia, his parents were Scottish and well off, but not terribly warm. Bruce worked as a teacher and later as a lecturer in educational psychology, a successful job with a lot of travel in canada and the states. He tended to side with the delinquent kids and got a rep as being a bit too friendly with some of them, which made him a few enemies among the higher-ups. when a principal tried to fire him (Bruce had made him lose face), Bruce asked a friend in the union to look into the books; the friend came back with evidence of dodgy doings, a stalemate was agreed, and Bruce was given the proverbial golden handshake that allowed him to retire to Asia. He had been married to a doctor. No children. He left Bangkok in 1999 and moved to Phnom Penh. Bruce was a man of the counterculturall sixties, he knew a number of people in BC including Robert Altman who cast him as an extra in McCabe and Mrs Miller. Rock on, Bruce!
