Banteay Meanchey Province: some unrest took place at 11 at night on 27 October as the corpse of a Japanese man was transported by moto to cross the international border crossing [at] Poipet. Authorities stationed at the border crossing said that if they had not noticed it, they might just have dropped the body. [??*]
It was the corpse of a Japanese national named WATANABE TASUMI, who was male, 68 years old, staying in a rented room in a village in Sangkat Potpet.
Sources [working for] the Poipet international border administration said that around 11.15 at night on 27 October the corpse of the Japanese mentioned above was suspected to be with 2 people; one khmer who rode the moto and one Thai who sat at the back and held up the body. In front of the custom checkpoint at the border the police/officials noticed and stopped them to question them and wanted a report of the body [death certificate?] and took the two suspects to the city police inspection unit.
On the case above, the border inspection police of Poipet said by phone that from questioning the suspects who transported the body by moto, the victim had been sick and had no relatives. They felt sorry for him and together took him to go the health centre Poipet1, but the victim died on the way there. So they took him to the international border crossing to give/deliver the body to the authorities stationed there, but [the authorities] were not prepared to have bodies be dropped there.
The body was taken to be kept at Wat Kou Staream Sro Trach in village Kbal Spean bridge 1, Sangkat Poipet at night, and in the morning of 28 October the responsible authorities and a doctor have conducted an examination and autopsy on the body, as by the guidelines of the court of first instance.
The authorities said that following the examination and autopsy they know the body did not have scars/marks from fighting so may have died from illness. Right now, experts are examining the place where the victim was living to find medication to know what kind of illness the victim had.
