Swiss guy Renaud Jankiewicz dies at Irish Place, Street 110
I've got a bit bored of doing expat deaths and haven't bothered keeping tally, but this is one worth noting. 41 year old Swiss national Renaud Jankiewicz was found dead in The Irish Place on Street 110, a suspected (you guessed it) heart attack.
I'm led to believe he was working there as the chef.

I read somewhere else that he'd been on a 3 day bender.

I heard a few years ago that the Irish Place is full of "day drinking pissheads."Lucky Lucan wrote:I read somewhere else that he'd been on a 3 day bender.
Rory told me that, he would know.

Not going to translate word for word.
Summary:
Works there as a chef and and lives there for many years, celebrated this his birthday, drank 3 days straight with 3 friends and found out he was dead on the 23rd of July at the said place.

He probably died of septicaemia given the general filth in the place.

I thought that was the best fish and chips in town when they opened. The first chef was fucked when I was there and he was a barely functional human being who I met in Queally's in the company of Lucky Luckan and yer man. They'd all had moto accidents at the time, looked like a clusterfuck and the food was shite anyway.

The worst food and service ever and the only place I never gave a second chance, I was so put off. It was before the recently deceased Chef though.rl66 wrote:I thought that was the best fish and chips in town when they opened. That's a shame, I'm pretty sure he used to be the chef at La Patate if so he always came across as a really decent guy. RIP
From cooking at La Patate to cooking at Irish Place? I suppose death was the next logical step.

Renaud was a nice fellow, and a good cook.
Yeah, he worked at La Patate previously. He had some bad luck, got smashed off a moto and had a bum knee, hip and shoulder as a result which probably should have been operated on as they left him somewhat disabled.

fwiw, I love the Irish Place; one of the few real pubs in Phnom Penh. Bit rough around the edges, sure, but nothing wrong with that.
