There must be a whole host of reasons why many expats find Cambodia quaint; this is one that I found particularly appealing. It reminds me of the Jamaican bobsleigh team.

They are the role models in the rink at the moment and they are hopefully going to be the coaches that assist me in the future," she says.
That's the British lady coach quoted by Holly Robertson of the newspaper.
Is there no end to Westerners carving a conmpletely ridiculous self serving niche in Cambodia for their own life. This one takes the biscuit,

With all the mixed marriages I wouldn't be surprised if Cambodia has an athlete in the winter olympics with a chance to finish top-10 in the next decade or two.
None but ourselves can free our mind.
I know plenty of chips n' rice kids who have gone live in france, one frog friend lives in the Alps with his wife and 2 kids, the kids ski, obviously, so it's not out of the realm of imagination.Visser wrote:With all the mixed marriages I wouldn't be surprised if Cambodia has an athlete in the winter olympics with a chance to finish top-10 in the next decade or two.

We now have a good sprinter (speed skating) who has a Senegalese father so dual citizenship.pedros wrote:I know plenty of chips n' rice kids who have gone live in france, one frog friend lives in the Alps with his wife and 2 kids, the kids ski, obviously, so it's not out of the realm of imagination.Visser wrote:With all the mixed marriages I wouldn't be surprised if Cambodia has an athlete in the winter olympics with a chance to finish top-10 in the next decade or two.
He's good enough to be on the Dutch 500m team but if he was ranked 5-10th on average he could just start for Senegal and be auto-qualified for every tournament.

There is also the case of the boateng brothers, Prince chose to play for Ghana and Jerome who went for Germany.

The whole god damn country would get a moto to the end of the street rather than walk 50 meters and you are talkin' about them in the olympics?Visser wrote:With all the mixed marriages I wouldn't be surprised if Cambodia has an athlete in the winter olympics with a chance to finish top-10 in the next decade or two.

Hard to think of a Thai/falang athlete and there are hundreds of thousands of those kids. Many are models and singers including that girl Vanessa Mae who plays the violin. She attempted to ski for Thailand but didn't qualify, she was no good.
So the chance of a Khmer making it is doubtful. Most top lady golfers are Asian so a golfer might pop up, the Thai have a few of those.
I always thought my son might play Davis Cup for Thailand but they wanted him to play cricket. Maybe with him Thailand may have become a minnow in the World Cup when they just missed qualification a few years ago.
The Thai ladies cricket team is very competitive.

Vanessa Mae did qualify and she competed for Thailand in the 2014 Winter Olympics.
