Who put him on a pedestal in the first place? When he arrived, he was showered with plaudits and given a royal welcome. Nothing wrong with that, but now, all of a sudden, he's the Devil's advocate. It takes time to find your way about here and if he'd been looked after a bit better on his first big night out on the town, his woes might have been avoided.
The ones who rolled out the red carpet seem all too eager to kick sand in his face.
Just a few thoughts!
Well here's hoping he finds a comfy chair. Nothing quite like a comfy chair and a pipe to take away the woes of the world.
And a garden. Don't forget the garden! As for a hobby, The Hash House Harriers seem quite sprightly. Oh yeah, rubber-soled slippers are a must. Yaah, I'm feeling sleepy already. Goodnight John-Boy!
I was sad because I had no shoes until I met a man who had no feet

I really don't give much thought to the Con man, but I like a good story that may arise from one's buffoonery, including my own.

Yeah, someone should have held his hand and walked him around.
man, i hate when I'm forced to agree with the LL over a usually reasonable person (KL&f), but really... what sort of comment was that? Blaming it all on his first experiences out with a group of people who have lived in Cambodia a number of years?

Of course, I'm not saying he should have had his hand held, but it's a place where the cheap (by comparison) booze flows freely and you can easily get carried away by fluffy attention. I'm not 'blaming it all' on his first advertised night out. If you remember his first "I've been robbed" thread, it was a bit pitiful and most posters expressed some empathy, while not a few expressed some doubts as to whether he'd really been mugged or done something to ask for a bit of a slapping.
It happens and he seemed quite lucky, but expressed regret the next day and offered an apology to Andy and others. His ribs seemed to mend remarkably quickly, too, but we all need a bit of sympathy now and again.
Look, I've never met him, but I think from what I can gather that he's not that old...or experienced?
It can be a tough place, but no worse than any other new environment in a strange city.
Rambling check. Was either of you (Violet & LL) so without naivety when you first came here that you can cast the first stone?

I've managed to avoid getting robbed by any hooker or beaten up for many years here, and I nearly always go out alone. Maybe I'm just lucky or something but there's probably more to it than that...

i was far more worldly wise it seems. I had my fair share of troubles but none of the type that were due to being a naive person in Cambodia. It takes all sorts. (and I'm big on self-responsibility)

Quite right KL&fool.
and Flying Chicken who agreed with you.
Sorry Connie if what I wrote is construed as taking a cheap shot at you.
You have stated to AiA that you did the right thing by your Khmer Landlords.
Naturally we should take your word over theirs.
You after all...
never skipped your country on your debts in the past;
never got the crap kicked out of you on your first night out after bedding a hooker (you never said if you actually paid her);
never perpetuated a fraudulent story (about a fight in the garage bar) on this forum.
So your track record would never lead anyone to believe that you would try and skip out on your landlord without paying your debt to them and then have any story other than the facts......
It is a real shame that they came after you for a mere $5, after all it is such a trivial amount it is not really a debt.
andyinasia, whom I have known for years and consider a straight shooter, must have got it wrong but in my defence I was relying on his information, albeit second hand from decent Khmer folk.
Thus if anyone inferred that I was taking a cheap shot at you I do apologise unreservedly, and please rest assured I did not intend to tarnish your fine reputation.
Connie, we all make mistakes, I hope you can forgive me for this one.

Nice one, my noble laud. I'm all sackcloth and ashes . Flo, thanks for teaching me a new word. I'd say your term sounds about right.
When I was first called Pom, I just thought they were jealous. Then I found out that if they call you 'Pom B*st*rd' it means they acknowledge your superiority and are jealous, but admit it; if they call you a B*st**d Pom' they still acknowledge your superiority, but are so jealous that they hate you. Weird!

Has anyone purchased a large leather or cloth recliner? What was the cost? New/used? I am going to be looking for something like a lazy boy. Also what is the average cost for a used comfortable couch? No rattan shit, just something big and soft. Are ottomans available or would I need to make one? I'm going to spend alot when I first get into town to get my place just the way I want it and I'm trying to create a basic budget for furniture. The place already has a comfortable bed, kitchen, hot water, and tv.
