too soon.
Why, oh why, didn't I take the Blue pill?
I wrote a short report of my short encounter with her a couple years ago. In short I wouldn't study with her even if it were free. Not a very nice thing to say but accurate if you value your time.
Hi Logos why you wrote report in Khmer 440 sorry I don´t know your name I never Teach you before If you wrote report later you have to think be for you wrote o.k?
but now I apologize for you.

Sophavy, no one 'has to' do anything.
You've had free adverts on here for forever, dog knows why, never a word of thanks.
In this particular case, I'll take logos' side, and I must say this is the first time you have bothered to respond in many, many months, simply when someone gave an opinion.
Deal with criticism, I for one, will not be contacting you, nor referring you.
And, imho, your rate is a joke.
Cheers, sva laplap.

My experience with Sophavy has been excellent and I would recommend her.
After 9 months of classes with Sophavy I find I can get by in conversational Khmer quite well in most situations.
We also started with the sounds, which is something that many/most language teachers seem to do and a good introduction to the phonetics of Khmer (and a bridge to mastering the script if you want to do that).
I did have to get used to the system used for transcription in the study book (alas there is no standard one for Khmer), but once I got used to that, it became a lot easier. The start was a bit hard, but you have to hang in there a few lessons I feel.
Also, the method relies on the student doing 'drills' and studying vocabulary, so it requires you to make a bit of an effort outside class naturally.
If you are not prepared to do this, you wont get the most out of it
Sophavy is very flexible with regards to when I can do classes and she tailors her classes to the speed I want and ability I can go.
Also important, she is very reliable (which was not the case with 2 other teachers I started of with).
It's really an easy-going arrangement and good fun and I am completely happy with it, both in terms of result and enjoyment.
The method and study book might not suit everybody, but it clearly worked for me.
Also, the rate is comparable to that of other private teachers.

I don't understand why some of you bitch about the hourly rate. I pay my Khmer tutor $10/hour. She has to pay for a tuk tuk to and from - that's a minimum of $4 just for transportation. What would YOU charge if YOU were the teacher?

Not sure why you see her transport costs as your responsibility. She's a freelancing teacher, who chooses to ride in a Tuk Tuk. Maybe you should pick up the tab for her stationery, laundry, food bills and weekend spends also.rgrowden wrote:She has to pay for a tuk tuk to and from - that's a minimum of $4 just for transportation.

LOL, there's not a single school/uni in this country who cares how the hell any teacher gets to work.rgrowden wrote:I don't understand why some of you bitch about the hourly rate. Hey, I've got a wife and a kid to support, should I get more than a single guy?
You could try suggesting it to the government...which pagoda is your preference?
