I sold my pretty shitty old Wave for $650 last year, with plates and reg. With VN plates, you'll maybe get $200-300 tops.

Dear Kristina,
You have posted here, that's good, thank you. But I will not approve you to post this same item for sale in 4 different threads.
Check out MyPhsar (website and Ap) as well as a good place to post it as well.

can some explain to me how it works with these vietnamese plates?
There seem to be many motos with vietnamese plates. Is that legal? Can you be fined?
I read that foreighner cant register plates, so how does that work?
How do you pay taxes? How much?
What about moto insurance?

Yes you can be fined and even have the moto confiscated, if you piss them off.james123 wrote:can some explain to me how it works with these vietnamese plates?

Foreigners can only register a moto through a moto business they’ve bought it off. There’s one company moto69 (FB) who say they can do it for old motos as well. Normally you just keep the ID card with the previous owners details. For now that’s ok.
No tax on under 125cc motos. That’s the yearly road tax I’m talking about. Import tax is different.
I’m not sure about getting insurance on a moto with a local licence. I don’t think you could for a bigger bike.
Most of these Vietnamese bikes are either Vietnamese or Chinese, usually made in China and assembled in VN. They do have VN Honda but you’ll pay the normal Honda premium.
There’s a countrywide scam in VN selling crappy Chinese Honda copies as real Honda’s. Often they even have “Espero Detech” written on the bike and ID card but it’s still advertised as a “Honda Win Detech”! Real Honda Wins are so rare they fetch a premium and have not been made for 18 something years. The stoopid backpackers don’t know. I mean, a 2017 Honda Win for $300. Really?
The shops tell the tourist the Detech is Vietnamese made but they are not. Just assembled there, probably for tax reasons. If anyone can show me the factory where they are made I’d be happy to be re-educated.
The only one I’d buy in VN is the Sufat Win. Proper Vietnamese made and manufactured moto. Bit like the Honda Daelim Citi in reliability.
pew, pew, pew, pew!

To a dealer for a quick sale, but it was cambodian plated and carded. Not vietnamese. Seriously with no plates, the price goes down to next to nothing because a) no import tax has been paid b) no license plate has been paid c) no registration has been paid.kristinaspecht wrote:may i ask where/how you sold it?pedros wrote:I sold my pretty shitty old Wave for $650 last year, with plates and reg. These things probably total more than the bike is worth, which is why bikes with no or vn plates go for.$2-300, because the cops will stop them in the cities and do have the power to confiscate them or give on spot fines.
