Hi!
I am looking for a job as english teacher in Phnom Penh, and I hope you can give some advices or recommendations about the institutions.
- Does anyone knows the CIA FIRST International School? I have an interview next week for a part time (4 hours/day) or full time position (8 hours/day), as elementary teacher. Salary is from 600 USD to 700 USD for part time, and 900 to 1000 for a full time position. I would teach english, maths, social sciences and natural sciences. I know is not a top institution but I heard is not bad... They seems to "care" about education and child development. What do you think about the place? anyone has worked there? What do you think about the salary?
- What about the ELT Elementary and Secondary School? Is it good? I read some mixed reviews, people saying they were ok while others don´t recommend it at all. How much they pay?
- Anyone knows CAM-ASEAN? and Beltei?
Honestly I a so confused about salary expectations. I read people who make 1500 USD for a full time and others make 700 for the same hours. Moreover, I know I cannot trust that any employer is going to tell me the truth about how much they pay. They just ask, how much will be suitable for you? Or they make a low offer waiting you to accept it. Some of them seems to go straight to their "official" salary range, but I dont know if I should trust them...
I know I dont have a lot of experience, I am not native speaker (You didnt notice it, right? ) and I am young and naive; but I want what is fair! (Fairness and Cambodia seems antagonic) I dont need to earn the biggest salary, but I would hate to see others in my same situation are making more by doing the same.
I am waiting for your comments!
Thanks guys!

I've never spoken to anyone who has taught at CIA.
The best things about ELT are that they have aircon in the teachers' room and they always pay salaries on time. If they try and offer you anything less than $10-12 an hour, tell them to go and jump off a bridge.
I think BELTEI offer about $10 an hour, but I hear that they now make the teachers do a ridiculous amount of paperwork, including...wait for it... writing lesson plans. What a fucking joke! On the positive side, if you drop dead in one of their schools, they will do their best to smuggle your corpse out of the building without attracting rubberneckers and reporters.

EESS was good when I worked there quite a few years ago now. Full time salary with public holidays. Plus if you work there they tend to offer you additional hourly rate work at ELT, as many hours as you care to do. I felt some genuine intrinsic satisfaction while I was doing both gigs as a number of my EESS students who learned I was also working at ELT asked to be transferred to my ELT classes from the ones they were already in. That felt pretty bloody good, I must say...

That full time salary for CIA First of $1000 is very low-end.
ELT is a language school. Prepare for 30-40 kids high on red bull and sting in the class bouncing off the walls not giving a fuck about what you're talking about.
Cam-Asean is very new but I don't believe they will offer you something there if you're not a native speaker.
Try Aii -- they hire many Filipinos, East Europeans, and Africans and pay $12/hour to start. But see ELT above re: the type of school environment.

Doesn't ELT still have a policy of never failing any fee-paying student? Think about the implications of that from the teacher's perspective. Mind you, I think the English-language factory and the school parts are separately-run, and the no-fail policy applies mainly to the former, but my info is not current.
I came, I argued, I'm out
