For those of you who have taught in Cambodia and elsewhere
I'm interested to know what you think of other teaching locales as compared to Cambodia. For example, central and eastern Europe. I've been considering teaching in places like Prague, Budapest, and Warsaw, but the pay is absolutely appalling. Even worse than Cambodia. One job advert from Hungary is looking for native speakers (from Canada, the US, and the EU only) with a bachelors degree and TEFL cert. They advertise the pay as commensurate with local Hungarian wages (i.e. less than $1000 per month) and the applicants are ask to pay a one-time fee of $1500! Many Polish schools are asking for American native speakers with bachelors degrees and TEFL certs but incredibly they're offering, in some cases, as little as $500 - $800 per month. A high school dropout can easily earn more than that stocking shelves or flipping burgers so why would an American university graduate even consider such a job? It really doesn't make sense. A school in Ukraine is recruiting English teachers...starting at 8,000 UAH per month ($333!). Schools in Georgia are offering right around $300 per month for candidates with degrees and TEFL certs. Is the Middle East the only place to earn decent money teaching English?
Our flag, red with the blood of victory, bears the spirit of the country. The path to glory is built by the bodies of our foes.
I was making obscene amounts by hour in luxembourg, 20-50 euro. Tidy gigs with private tutoring and bank training. Then the mrs kicked me out of my nice house and 600 euro a month room and the impending winter made Asia look like a nice place to visit.....
Did a stint in Romania too, shit wages, but nobody wants you to pay for food/booze as a guest. The winters there make lux look tropical. I'm here mostly for the weather and poon tbh.
