Are female staff referred to as, call girls?
My posts are just jokes, maybe they're rude, offensive, and politically incorrect. They're not my opinion, viewpoint, idea, or judgement, but they're just fucking jokes so lighten up.

There are plenty of hungry and skilled people here that would have lots of opportunity back at home, but not here where high paid jobs for westerners only exist in a few very narrow verticals. That's the conundrum, I want a life and a future in Cambodia, but I don't want a career that's not allowing me to fulfill my potential and has no opportunity for personal growth.Starving Pelican wrote:It's all well and good to say that you'll raise the pay if the company does well, but how will you guarantee that to someone? There's nothing to stop you not doing that.
With all due respect a job at a tech startup isn't for everyone, that's completely understandable and it's definitely not for anyone that has a low tolerance for risk or doesn't feel that they have what it takes to shape their own outcomes. And you are right, we could start making a shit load of money on the back of a rapid growth trajectory and then I could stiff all the staff that made that happen. That would be an extremely foolish and shortsighted thing to do, but it's not unheard of. So when we meet I will have to follow my gut as to whether this person is going to fit in with our team and our vision, and they will have to follow their gut as to whether they want to be part of that vision and there is a future here for them.Starving Pelican wrote:It's all well and good to say that you'll raise the pay if the company does well, but how will you guarantee that to someone? Personally I think these barriers are a good thing, they will bring the right person into the team, someone that's committed, confident in terms of what they can bring and forward thinking.

I don't necessarily disagree with your last paragraph, but the smart ones will only sign on if they have a strong belief they'll be rewarded if the whole thing does well.startup_cambodia wrote:There are plenty of hungry and skilled people here that would have lots of opportunity back at home, but not here where high paid jobs for westerners only exist in a few very narrow verticals. The dilemma for the OP is that there aren't many smart people looking to start a career in Cambodia. Smart people don't start careers in Cambodia. The smart expats in Cambodia are likely working for themselves.

I think smart is probably the wrong word. Maybe sensible would be more accurate, but if we were all sensible we wouldn't be married to Cambodia in the first place would we?alanclarke72 wrote:The dilemma for the OP is that there aren't many smart people looking to start a career in Cambodia. If someone is young and living in Cambodia, they have already shown that they're prepared to take a step into the unknown when an opportunity presents itself.

Would you care to share with us your detailed research that allowed you to come up with this figure? Or was it just a figure you made up? You know, nice round number, that kind of thing.startup_cambodia wrote: What I'm offering isn't the best starting salary in the world (although already well above 90% of English teaching jobs).

It's not such a bad idea for someone who has a morning teaching gig and doesn't mind putting in the hours.

Yes it's still open. Sorry for the slow reply, I've been away for a few days and that email address I provided is my spam catcher to I don't check it on my downtime. I will follow up by email now.
A tech startup without a web page ?
Seems the most logical way to attract customers or potential employees unless your trying to hide the actual business into.

Thing I don't get - it's a tech start up but hasn't started. Why doesn't the OP start the business and do the work himself and see if his business model works? Then when he starts raking in the money and has too.much work he can hire someone as needed. Or when it all turns to rat shit he can resign himself from his own company without owing anyone but himself unpaid wages.
I'd be very careful getting into any business that wasn't tried and tested. All that stuff about young hungry people willing to take a risk sounds like - are you dumb enough to work for a few months and listen to.my b.s. excuses about why I haven't paid you yet as I'm waiting on a contract etc.
