Legit online English teaching opportunities

Postby chanchan » Sat Feb 18, 2017 12:50 pm

Hi all
I don't know if anyone in here is or has been teaching English online? I have been doing a lot of research recently about online English teaching opportunities. There are actually quite a few legit companies that are hiring. Most of them pay around $10-15/h, but a few schools allow you to even make over $20/h. Of course, those usually require that you have a BA degree, a teaching certificate (TEFL/TESOL, etc) and sometimes even prior teaching experience. However, if you are happy with lower pay, it is fairly easy to land one of those gigs. Because I don't want to run the risk of running afoul of any forum rules, I will not be posting any links here. But you can find lots of info by just googling "teach English online". I also created a big spreadsheet with online schools and also a Facebook group to discuss online English teaching. If you are interested, let me know and I will PM the info to you.
Regards

Would be great if you could post, and I think lots of ppl would be interested in knowing how to sort those opportunities.
The problem with the world is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

That is a very comprehensive spreadsheet. Why would you bother to do all of that?

I'm currently trying to make a living as a freelancer and online English teaching seems like a good option. After doing some research, I realized that there wasn't one nice comprehensive list, so I thought I might as well create one for my own benefit as well as for everyone else's.

Actually, there is another, list, but it's not nicely sortable & filterable. But the comment section is invaluable:

I would like to update this. In the meantime, I created a website that lists online teaching opportunities, http://onlineeslreviews.com. You can filter by application requirements and other criteria.

This is indeed fantastic :bravo:

Is anyone teaching online from Cambodia? Is the internet speed/stability sufficient these days?

I'd be keen to hear about anybody's experiences.

Vipkid out of China. Huge company. They pay 22usd per hour if you do well on the demo. They accept SE Asia residents. I know someone back here in Phoenix, AZ doing it a few hours in early morning before work.
