I've met many a red-faced expat working in kindergartens in Vietnam and Taiwan.
Dictated to a slave and sent by carrier pigeon.
Advert in today's CD, page 8.

True, and being female is a massive advantage for kindergarten, as mentioned, but I have seen male teachers in kindergartens as well - apple American school is one. However, I have numerous male friends (of all ages) who have found jobs teaching older children and all within a week, but something I forgot to mention is that you generally start part-time, and then work your way up to full-time.busman774 wrote:She forgot to mention that she is a 20 something female so as a kindergarten teacher that is all that's required. From the couple interviews I have managed to get it looks more like $7/hr with no experience. Also an age limit of 35-45 is common.
Loved the add for a native teacher with a degree + experience aged 18-35
As a side note, the teachers who also work at the school I am in have worked there for at least 9 months from when the school opened and have been in Cambodia nearly 2 years, and they are female so some girls do stick around.
Also, I'm not sure about the good looking thing, I am somewhat on the *ahem* larger side of life, and some people may say that I have fallen out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down.....and I still got a job, but they do make me wear a mask though......

They seem to think that they're going to be the bees' knees, but there are a couple of silly mistakes in their advert. There suddenly seem to be lots of schools from Singapore opening up.SunSan wrote:Advert in today's CD, page 8.

kl, I heard that at least one was started by people who were refused a licence in Singapore.
Maybe they spelled Singapore incorrectly on their application.

Busman, I said those male friends of mine have jobs teaching older kids, in high school. Some have experience, some don't - and the same goes for degrees, some have, some don't. They all started on just a few hours a day at first, but now work full time.

That brick structure in the middle looks like 'The Thing' from the old DC comics. Spooky.hanky wrote:Yeah, and loads of schools from Cambridge, New York and USA.kinglear#1 wrote: There suddenly seem to be lots of schools from Singapore opening up.

It's a school next to Wat Tuol Tom Pong that is built over a metalworks, so the students enjoy the sound of angle-grinders and hammering all day. It was unusually quite that day because it was a holiday.

Thanks for all the tips. I have passed this linky on to my friends and hopefully they'll find the allure of a career in Cambodia too good to pass up.
And no, I'm not a teacher. Luckily.

I think even if you put up a sign saying
'Worst Goddamn American International School in The Entire Universe' you would get students.
International and American are magic words.

Guess you never took reading comprehension 101 or just plain use selective reading to try to prove your point, as you conveniently ignored the age factor!Jessb52 wrote:Busman, I said those male friends of mine have jobs teaching older kids, in high school. The thread was about two under-30s trying to find a job and Jess gave some good advice for that situation. The 60+ age issue doesn't apply here.busman774 wrote:Guess you never took reading comprehension 101 or just plain use selective reading to try to prove your point, as you conveniently ignored the age factor!
