Plenty of those in 1970s England. Chalkboard eraser hits on your blazer were a badge of honour in certain corners of the quad.OrangeDragon wrote: We had a ... teacher who would fly off the handle when people were talking in class while he was working the chalkboard (as teenage kids will do) and he would start throwing shit. generally only the chalk or a chalkboard eraser, ...

A teacher who resorts to throwing things or making students stand facing a wall, has clearly lost control and I would question that perons suitability to teach.
A core responsibility of a teacher is t maintain a safe and comfortable learning environment. How can it be either if things are being thrown at people?
Would I get my car serviced by a garage, who's mechanic threw spanners at me ?
Would I eat in a restaurant if the waiter or chef threw food at me ?
So why should a parent not expect the same standards of behaviour in the classroom ?
Just a thought !

Nothing but an opinionated tourist. The Pope spends more time in countries than I do ! It is also not my place to comment on a gentleman's dress. A real 23 minute wonder, that obviously knows little about ovens and cooking in Cambodia.
I would! That sounds fun as hell, and I'd definitely be throwing it back!EdinWigan wrote:

Excellent. To maintain the analogy though, you'd have to be the one to initiate the food fight. Could you really bring yourself to waste a whole slice of pizza to lobbing it down some large-breasted waitress' blouse?cambod wrote:I would! ^cambod's biggest ever dilemma
I came, I argued, I'm out
I think $20/h is reasonable for what she is offering - she has to travel to the place that the child will be taught (presumably at home), think about a curriculum that will engage, interest and develop the child and she has to prepare her own materials. Oh and one-to-one teaching, for the uninitiated, is far more demanding than classroom teaching.

I used to frequent a Teppenyaki restaurant in Sydney where the chef would cook the food at the table and do exactly that. You could catch it in a bowl, or, in the case of my friend Kaylene, between the breasts. (Admittedly, the chef was aiming there all night).cambod wrote:I would! Another night I was with my Japanese class and one of the guys started saying, 'Sumimasen! Sumimasen!' to one of the waitresses. She didn't realise she was being spoken too as she was Chinese (as were the owners/chefs etc).
But, throwing food, juggling bowls and a number of other things were all part of the service/entertainment.

I can imagine the horrors of teaching OD.OrangeDragon wrote:We had a shop teacher who would fly off the handle when people were talking in class while he was working the chalkboard (as teenage kids will do) and he would start throwing shit. generally only the chalk or a chalkboard eraser, though once it was a metal drafting table stool. about took out 3 kids with that one.
HI kids, today we're going to learn about the earth, which is round.
Err, Miss, a survey by the NRA and Fox News had stats which showed that...
Throw.

There used to be some Mexican restaurants in Western Australia (and maybe other states, hell, I don't know) where flinging food back at the waiters was obligatory - if you did it well enough the chefs would come and join in also. Floor was usually covered with peanut shells. Weird place, but huge fun. The health department eventually put an end to it, I'm sure there was a whinging bleeding heart or two involved in the demise.cambod wrote:I would! Yeah, I can't imagine anyone with a DELTA teaching for less than this, although I am far from the teaching expert on this forum.Teach-er wrote:I think $20/h is reasonable for what she is offering - she has to travel to the place that the child will be taught (presumably at home), think about a curriculum that will engage, interest and develop the child and she has to prepare her own materials. imho, a person with a DELTA should ask for at least $25/hour.
Anything less is a joke.
Let them get a paedo/one-month tefler courser and save cash

My first thought also, but since I'm not a teacher I wasn't sure. Maybe the fact that she is not a native English speaker is the reason for the lower price?vladimir wrote:imho, a person with a DELTA should ask for at least $25/hour.

She has a DELTA and is fluent.
Good enough.
