Poipet didn't work out?
Maybe Horace was right. The subject line of this thread does seem kind of desperate. Do you still have another job lined up starting in August?

I only have a part time job now. An international school ( a fairly new one ) has made me an offer. But I need at least another pt time job to keep me going till August. Any suggestions, Gavinmac?...gavinmac wrote:Poipet didn't work out?

ELT will usually offer 530 - 7pm classes to qualified or sometimes unqualified teachers. I think they pay $12+ for these time slots.Aleks wrote:I only have a part time job now. Try and join one of the places doing home tutoring. They act as an agent. It's not prime, but you will get something until you can get out.

Cheers Vlad! I'll check it out. The annoying thing is that most of the positions (even in shitty schools like Beltei)seem to be filled with guys who've been there for years, and all they have is an online TEFL.
Perhaps it is a bad timing to look for jobs? When I arrived in PP in January2013 - the second school I walked in offered me a full-time job....
Has something changed here in PP?? It's only been a year!

How many schools have you actually walked into this time? Also the trouble may be that you are very well qualified and the lesser schools may think you won't stay too long which is probably true, no?
I think the mistake you made was not coming back with enough cash to last at least six months, not being critical of you but maybe others will learn from your experience.
Go to the worst of the worst and accept whatever they offer even if it's 5$ an hour, you only have to wait about 3 months till the international school job comes up and if you have a grand that would be enough to do it, no beers or fun though.
enjoy.

Maybe that's because the long termers are more stable, and some of the newly arrived teachers are unreliable and will leave the school after 3 months for something else, like you're planning to do.Aleks wrote: The annoying thing is that most of the positions (even in shitty schools like Beltei)seem to be filled with guys who've been there for years, and all they have is an online TEFL.

gavinmac, I think you're giving school admins credit for planning/assessing, when in fact they just bumble from day to day and make it up as they go along.

Yes, it's not like sexpats looking for cashiers, now that takes know-how/obsessive planning.gavinmac wrote:Yeah, I assumed that's how you got hired.
Would you like to be a teacher, gavinmac? I could give you some tips.
You sure spend a lot of time in this section...only problem is most schools only have one cashier.
