How about $400-500 p/m? I was offered that at one of the schools by a young rich Khmer bastard!

I too thought it was very strange how Aleks somehow drew it up that you were talking about him. I actually re-read what you said because I thought it to be pretty strange. Something about your entire situation is fucked up Aleks. I mean, if you really are this qualified then how are you having to take a job at $1000 per month. I guess a $1000 per month is not a bad SALARY as long as you are not teaching a lot of hours. I wouldn't teach over 20 hours per week for that. The paid holidays are nice. I am hourly and trust me, the unpaid holidays suck, especially if you have certain days stacked up full of classes. Life is about who you know and marketing yourself, not just your qualifications on paper. I've been following your story with the least amount of care I could muster up and it just seems like you had a very difficult time FINALLY landing that $1000 per month salaried gig. Kind of weird that you couldn't find something around $1200-1400ish....scobienz wrote:Aleks wrote:[

FWIW, I wasnt referring to you as a low grade teacher, Aleks. I was commenting on the general industry here.
You are obviously well qualified and competent, but don't you see that it's odd that you are supporting vlad's point when, frankly, the fact that a well qualified teacher like you is coming to PNH for 'lifestyle reasons' and accepting a job in a 'prestigious' school for $1000 a month, a salary which vlad himself says he was earning over a decade a go.
Surely you are living proof that my theory is right and that it's the willingness of even legitimate and quality teachers to be here and accept those kinds of salaries that are the key factor keeping salaries down?

I despair with you sometimes. You ALWAYS, I repeat, ALWAYS, side with the employer.scobienz wrote:Surely you are living proof that my theory is right and that it's the willingness of even legitimate and quality teachers to be here and accept those kinds of salaries that are the key factor keeping salaries down?

1. I am not disputing it happens. I am telling you WHY it happens. The main reason is that schools want cheap labour, so no checks, nada. People are then forced to work at a lower rate. Surprise, teachers have families too.scobienz wrote:I'll ask again Vlad. How is it the fault of the employers when Aleks . . who is supporting your position . . is coming here as a qualified teacher and accepting a job at a salary that you yourself say is shite?
You are famous for telling me that it is wrong to pay more than necessary to get a decent apartment in Phnom Penh. Why, then, is it wrong for teachers to pay more than necessary to get a decent teacher in Phnom Penh?

Yeah, fair enough. On reflection I'm inclined to agree with GM's assessment that I kind of get your point, without 100% agreeing with it.vladimir wrote:

My reasons for whinging are twofold: a) Finding a decent job, and b) unethical practice which impacts everyone adversely EXCEPT the owner.
