They are designed for local non-NES, but the CELT-P might be useful to you. They may be a lot cheaper than the full CELTA course and possibly be provided locally. They're still in the planning stage, but you might like to keep your eyes open.

Blind trust that assumes that educational institutions have no interest in money and would never do such a thing is just as shaky an assumption.
And your answer may ring hollow, andy, because you do work for them, right?
So bias cannot be ruled out.
I believe DM may be right, perhaps we should keep an open mind rather than blindly accept what may very well be a re-branding.
iirc, DM's degree is in marketing?

I work for Cambridge English, yes. It's an institution associated with Cambridge Flippin' University that has provided assessment for studying and teaching English internationally for over 100 years and is the global leader, as you well know. Only you could be such a muppet as to insinuate that's blind trust. Don't let your hate eat up all that's left of your retarded brain - save it for when you at least have a semblance of a case.

Don't be so touchy, andy, Cambridge is generally a very well-respected institution, we all know that.
That doesn't mean we should not assess things on their own merit, or question the validity of new products, does it?
if anything, a trusted educational institute should welcome scrutiny, yes?
And DM may well be right, he was trained in marketing, so he may well know better than you, in this case. I know you find that hard to stomach, but there it is.
There's no hate, or retarded brain. One could argue that 'a pro pro' instead of 'apropos of' was retarded, if you want to start on that, but forum rules ask us not to participate in personal attacks, I believe. I suspect Cambridge itself would support such a guideline.
You're beginning to sound a little paranoid.
Calm down, have a cup of tea, and carry on.

Who studied the curriculum for the new courses and compared it to standard Adult CELTA
Hands up
Not me - I haven't followed it up. To be honest, I've since switched my focus to developing a project with the Ministry of Education to provide enhanced English-language teacher training in the state sector, as that's where the greater need is, and is what the minister has prioritised. The CELTA stuff is on a bit of a back-burner at the mo.

Hi Claptrap,claptrap1 wrote:I am a bit confused. Two nights ago I was reading about Celta courses when I came across a forum for people who had done It. Almostinvariably the comments were negative, not because of the workload, although that was mentioned of course but how little real life value the course had. Few mentioned about spending 4 hours on spent on lesson plan, an unrealistic task if you teach full time. I can understand the value as an exercise but it doesn't prepare you for the real world. Surely that is the purpose for the course, not the theory? In teacher training the students must learn how to speed up the writing but surely in a sort course like Celta the trainers sould give you some pointers? The other complaint was about teaching methods, of how they are old fashioned, based on outdated educational theories and that they are too inflexible. I cannot comment because I don't know what they're talking about. Unfortunately I cannot even find the URL now.
I looked at the possibility if doing Celta in England. One website promises 100% passrate. How that be? Is it because they test the prospctive students twice, first one a pdf gou sent with an application form and another one during the interview: the people who pass the interview cannot fail at least on language theory...
Well, I thought about applying for course in Thailand oar Vietnam becausethe dates in England are not going to work out, but is there any different difference in which country Celta was gained?
It is the difference between demonstrating knowledge and ability of a course (lesson plan taking 4 hours to construct) and the reality.
Long drawn out lesson plans are a thing of the past but most quality teachers and Ofsted (if UK based) have moved over to the '5 Minute Lesson Plan'
Of course there are still some folk in classrooms that insist in 'Old School' ways but then again there is still a 'Flat Earth Society'

There is a lot of misguided information here. There is a lot of nonsense posted here. There are a few posters who have no idea about what they are posting about. There are a few who do ...(know)
Yes, some of you have absolutely no idea. You really do not know. You know who you are. (I know, too)
Have a go at me if you know how to ....
If you don't, please be quiet.

A lot of what has been said on this thread contradicts, both what others have posted and what happens in quality schools, colleges and universities, so can accept the point Springrain is making but it might require a little more detail for those, who surprisingly require a more defined learning environment.
