That's a result of them formulating the sentence in Khmer, then keeping everything in the same order and just swapping out the Khmer words for English words.vladimir wrote:Yesterday I go market buy eye.
As a programmer, that's why I like Khmer, it's so much less verbose than English.
Yesterday I went to the market to buy ice.
That's correct English and uses nine words. The Khmenglish one above although "incorrect" conveys exactly the same information in only six words. If the speaker was a programmer rather than a language learner, they would be commended.
Sounds more like a lazy ass shortcut than a programming language, though.

one thing i noticed when texting was the misuse of the question mark. The girl was not asking me a question but still added the question mark.
Obviously I only figured this out because it was a text.....Einstein... lol

A girl who texts me often will add "ing" to the end of a verb whenever it is not needed. And she will omit "ing" whenever it is needed.
How is that cured?
I am go to the shop
I like to drinking Coke,
etc.

Is her name by any chance Rim? She probably just want to know if you like her or not, when she asks you: "Hey GM, do you like Rimming?"

In the first weeks after i first met fiancee, i asked her if she had lunch or dinner yet.
Very often it was replied with "Yeah, i had snake for lunch".
In the beginning i took it as an answer, but after some time i became a bit suspicious and was thinking "This girl seems to eat lots of snake, why's that!?"
Turned out she meant snack..!

This is a good thread, which I just deleted some (albeit amusing) unnecessary banter that made sense in 2015, but not now.
I had started the other thread about the overuse of the word "actually" in my office. The phrase "received with note" is also commonplace in emails, which I suspect is less a direct translation from Khmer, but instead is something that is taught in colleges here.
I find one of the most difficult things for them is the proper use of articles (a and the), which seem like simple and easy words to us, but can drastically change the meaning of a sentence when not used properly.

‘My dear’ / ‘dearest’
Directed to either gender.
A translation of a normal-ish Khmer word. Fine in Khmer. Just weird in English.
