Wholesale cheating blocked: mass fails
http://www.phnompenhpost.com/national/f ... ee-pm-step
This is really great news. For the first time, the government made serious efforts to prevent the wholesale cheating that has always been the norm in the school leaving exams. It must have been effective because it's apparent most of the students (maybe 80%) have failed. Now the PM is to give them a chance to re-sit in September after they've had a chance to spend a few weeks you know, studying.
Given that the opposition party have never said anything about the cheating perpetrated by students (i.e. 2018 young voters), I think it's commendable that the new Minister of Education has taken this initiative. It's the first real sign of reform that I've seen since the election. Good job

There's a lot of ASEAN meetings happening throughout Asia (sounds profound) and this is a good look in the media, face and all that, just a thought, hope it's a continuing trend. Well done.

As long as the CNRP stays silent on this topic, they can count on every student that fails again to vote for them.

I've long speculated that that's the precise reason they have no policy to clean up education despite their key support being youth.Felgerkarb wrote:As long as the CNRP stays silent on this topic, they can count on every student that fails again to vote for them.

i always figured it was because they have even less interest in having an educated electorate than the CPP.andyinasia wrote:I've long speculated that that's the precise reason they have no policy to clean up education despite their key support being youth.Felgerkarb wrote:As long as the CNRP stays silent on this topic, they can count on every student that fails again to vote for them.

That's really sad Tharin. As in utterly fucking pathetic. Let's hope the country can move on from this lousy state of affairs.Chet Tharin wrote:This year, we were not allowed to cheat or bribe proctors, so everyone could not finish filling out their paper

That's a bit unfair. The fact that no students managed to attain a good enough grade to enter the University of Liberia last year shows that they at least have good standards.ali baba wrote:Cambodia is really moving up in the world.

Actually, for once I think the way they went around it was slightly unfair to the students. With virtually no notice, they told students that they wouldn't be allowed to use calculators on the exams. I assume because students would stored formulas and shit in them. Fine, but they were never taught to calculate using just a pen and pencil (beyond simple long hand division and multiplication I assume). So students then had to magically figure out how to multiply numbers with denimals and so on. Not exactly fair... So while yes, I'm glad the government are finally tightening up the screw on the exams, it comes to no surprise that they went about it in an erratic and illogical way, sabotaging many students' chances of success.
And while I know a lot of countries have them, I personally I find the whole idea of "state exams" totally rediculous. Puts far too much pressure on students at a particular level, which in itself is conducive to cheating.

Judging by the amount of students, in the 15 to 18 year old age group, that arrive at the karaoke place on their scoopy's, 2 doors from me, when they should be at school, it is of no wonder to me that so many will fail in their exams.

Here in China the cops go around and tell all the KTV bosses they have to close during national exams. Even in the areas students never go. The internet cafes are packed though, and they don't make them close.
