What kind of teaching job could I aim for?
Finally going to make the move from Thailand in December. I know what kind/level I could go for here in Thailand..but clueless about Phnom Penh.
The stats: 55 y.o Aussie. 7 years teaching Prathom/Grade school in Thailand. Mostly in English Programs. Bachelor of Science (Computer) and a TEFL certificate.
So... what kind of schools could I apply to for full time work? (I'll probably do a bit of part time language school teaching at first)
Cheers!

You can use logic to justify anything. That's its power. It's also its flaw.

Stay in Thailand, the job market is crap for teachers in Cambodia. It seems to be getting saturated with available teachers however one of our resident TEFLers could provide better insight.
Maybe get a CELTA in Thailand? If you will teach until retirement it will pay off and you have better opportunities here in Cambodia (or Thailand).

Can't. Used up all my teacher license waivers. I could teach in a language school full-time or a uni....but I've just had enough of Thailand.GMJS-440 wrote:Stay in Thailand, the job market is crap for teachers in Cambodia.opportunities here in Cambodia (or Thailand).

I'm slightly older than you and I can tell you finding work may be difficult.
You could try Vietnam.
Cambodia is pretty full up with teachers now, I work with one poor bastard who finished his TESOL course here at some place and now has only 5 hours a week at $8/hour.

You've got a TEFL certificate, so what's the worry.
Look at camhr.com and apply for any job at a high school or institute that is advertising multiple positions . (I say high school because primary schools prefer women or younger guys and I say multiple positions because any school looking for more than 1 teacher won't be too picky)
Also keep your eyes open for any advert with spelling or grammar mistakes. (ELT's advert for example) They'll employ anyone.

What does his user name have to do with his chances to find a job? As if "Phuket2006" is creative.

I think the idea is that perhaps teachers shouldn't choose a name like that for a public forum.

It's anonymous until it's not.
Stay/post here long enough, it will happen.
I was 'inferring', something buddies do for each other when one is losing an argument/taking flack, it seems.
Or so I hear...

I stole the nic "keekwai" from a Thai comedian I saw years ago. The prudish Thais thought it was a laugh. If anyone is offended by it...fuck 'em.
